Topic: grumpy + temp Posted: 06 June 2010 at 6:54pm |
Not sure what to do, I think I know what I'd reply to a post like this, but would like a second opinion.
DS has been a bit fragile all day, then this evening has developed a temp (38.5). He wouldn't eat his dinner, but has had a good amount of milk (FF) today.
I've put him to bed now, with less blankets than usual. On the one hand I'm thinking he feels like he's baking, on the other I don't want him to freeze. Is it a good idea to leave him with less blankets?
When do I go to the Dr? (I was thinking 39 deg+)
oh, yeah, and I gave him pamol before bed too

We only go to the doc when we can't get a temp down. In A&E all they do is give pamol and ibuprofen alternatively until their temp stablises so we do that at home. Pamol then if in 2-3hrs its still up then we give ibuprofen. It always seems to work.
Just go in and check his temp and blankets before you head off to bed is what I'd do.

Id go back now and check if it has bought his temp down - TBH 38.5 and I would have taken him in or if he has a rapid rise in temp
Hes quite young so Id be a bit more careful than I would with My toddler

if it gets to 40 take him in if pamol doesnt lower it...if he is at 38 and going up just leaving him with no blankets...if your concerned can you put him near you tonight so then you can just lean over and if he feels cool then put a blanket on......my kids are always in and out of hospital and have temps of over 40...... its worse if you overheat them then them being cold...i remember taking Ty into hospital and of course being middle of winter i put beanie and jacket on...it was only while he was out side but did i get talked to haha......all the best..........and could he be teething....? remember kids ALWAYS get bad at night...when you take them to be seen during day ...they seem find

I would wait for 39 degrees, but try and cool him, don't use cold flannels as the body will try warm him up and make him hotter, it has to be a warm flannel.
Try Pamol too.
Failing that, if he continues to feel really hot, and temp keeps going up after it comes down I would take him to A&E, he might need Antibiotics.
We had a stink in hospital with Lily when she was 5 weeks, her temp got to 40 at it's highest. But we took her in at 38.

wow seriously? my kids have never had convulsions and they where younger...its on the danger list and at 38 you have to watch carefully but i wouldnt stress if your doing the right things and its been going down...its when it keeps going up
mother knows best and mothers know there kids...always remember that...i battled with hospital for my kids to get scans and checks so if you feel somthing is not right with your babe then your more then likely right and if your not then at least you have peace of mine....i guess im lucky as we own a nursing agency so things are easier for me ..... all the best hun and for your little midget

It went between 37.6 and 38.3 for the rest of the weekend. Extra grumpy but otherwise no other signs of what's wrong.
Then today he's fine.
I do wonder what's going on, so wish he could talk to me and tell me what's happening.

My DS had a temo pf 38.6 a month or so ago, and he ended up with croup, his temp went up and down the whole time he was sick, but I wasnt worried as it came down when the pamol kicked in, if it had gone over 39 then Id have taken him straight to the Dr's.

ds 10 months has had fevers on and off for the past week, got up to 39.5 but would come down with pamol. Went to the doc for the third time today, and he has brochitis and tonsilitis. Trust your instincts, and push on if you think something is wrong. For me, temps over 39 are when I start going ot the docs.
