BF & more milk in one boob than the other?

I notice when I express i can often get 2 or almost 3 times as much out of the left boob than the right. I thought it would even out eventually as I swap the twins after each feed. Also it is only the left side that will leak etc.

Wondering if this is normal and if should be trying to increase right side supply somehow? I keep worrying about the supply as it did not get off to a good start and also still using breast shields so i express 1x in the morning for 10 mins.

last week was getting 150ml combined after feeding and this week have been getting only 100ml so am worried supply is decreasing.

I want to keep expressing a reasonable ammount in the mornings as we have been giving them a bottle every few days, DH does it to give me a much needed longer sleep. Also should I ever go out with them I would give them a bottle I think rather than breastfeed in public as self conscious about the sheilds etc.

So are there any quick things I can do to increase the right side and production?

I wouldn't be concerned about it. I have always had one breast that produces more milk than the other.

Your supply will be settling down about now so don't get hung up on amounts etc. And don't forget that the amount you express has no indicator of your supply as your babies are much better at "expressing" than a pump.

I hope that helps somewhat. Have a look around the kellymom website, it has heaps of info about everything BF related

My left is about twice as big as the right

I have tried feeding her more off the right, less off the left but it didn't work. After a while they might even them selves out...

Have you tried porridge? Every time I have that my breasts seem to be 'fuller'

Also what Mamat said about expressing is true, baby is much better at expressing than a pump!

Welcome to the lopsided club

At times I've praised my right boob for it's production & chastised my left for letting the team down.

Thanks. Had porridge today I didn't know it could help with BF.

DH has been calling the left side "big boob"

I have tried letting them both feed for longer on the right side - especially our boy who would stay latched on on all day if I let him it hasn't seemed to make any difference.

I know they can get more than the pump but hope the ammount I can express won't reduce further as its really useful DH giving them a feed of EBM ever second or third night. I miss my sleep so much (as usually only get 1-2hrs between feeds at night as I feed them separate one after the other and sometimes there is no gap at all which sux). I would prefer not to resort to formula if possible.

What sort of ammounts can people express usually?

I can sometimes get 100ml from both sides, sometimes 100ml from my left and 70ml from my right. It varies for me.

I understand wanting to express for someone else to do night feeds! Unfortunately for me Lily doesn't like it when anyone else tries to feed her except sometimes she doesn't mind!

I get about 2 hour gaps over night, and a long stretch of about 4 hours (haha long?) once a night.

Are you able to tandem feed them?

I have the uneven boob issue. It was heaps worse when DS was little but has evened out somewhat now. It used to worry me but no I don't care. I did find I had to get rid of the breast shields around four-six weeks as they were effecting my supply! Something to think about anyway. Once you get used to it, it is much easier to feed without them!

i can tandem feed with the sheilds but is still quite hard to position them etc as they are so small, and ds especially needs alot of direction at first as he is often so impatient/excited once he is near me - arms flinging about and he will push himself off and pull away from boob while still aggressively sucking ow! so while i'm trying to hold his arms till he gets let down and calms down sometimes she will come off - and then she gets upset and have to start all again so i find it quite stressful when on my own.

i should put more effort into weaning off sheild i thought i lost one last night and was in a panic it would be so much easier if didn't need them

Yeah my left seems better at holding things up than the right, its the one that often seems fuller. I'm not concerned as Mstr N has no issues feeding from either side.

If you are going to wean off the shield, I found the easiest way was to offer the breast without the shield first then put the shield on if they still need it. Good luck!

Phew so glad I'm not alone with the lopsided boobs! My left has always been a wee bit bigger than my right but now I'm breastfeeding it's significantly larger! I can never express much out of my right but can get heaps out of the left. Isla doesn't seem to have any problems getting enough from right boob tho. she's growing well so obviously getting enough!
