	Hi ladies Today DD has been spitting up constantly, and it is really smelly (like sick smell). She isnt usually a spilly baby, so I am a bit concerned. She is slightly unsettled, but not too bad. She is fully BF, so I wondered if it could be something I had eaten. But I havent eaten anything out of the ordinary. Anyone got any ideas? EVERYTHING stinks of spew!! TIA

	Reflux. Acidic smell is pretty classic refluxy smell. It may be exacerbated by something you've eaten so keep an eye on it, and if it stays like that (and she stays a bit unsettled) then it would be worth having a chat to your GP.

	If you think it's spew, it probably is. DS 'spewed' for the first time the other day - I was quite surprised I mean he spills, and sometimes it's a bit cheesy. Sometimes it's soon after a bottle, sometimes not. This time it had 'that' smell. Didn't know what to do, just thought I'd do something if it kept happening - it didn't. Gosh, now I've written that I see i'm no help at all

	DS has that too - he is FF. Sometimes it is even watery - does that mean reflux too?

	Someone more knowledgable can correct me .... Lots of babies reflux and for many it's not problematic. It's just that their sphincters aren't fully operational and it's easy for stuff to come up. There's a difference between non-problematic and problematic reflux. Some kids will be irritated by it, and this is when I would consider things like altering position, meds if you need to .... If the baby isn't bothered, then I wouldn't do anything. Dan would be really grizzly but didn't have any other problems. He was fine on 20mg of meds, but as soon as we dropped to 15mg, he would be whingey baby ++. It took a year to get him off the meds. Reflux is basically stomach contents going up the oesophagus (or higher), so similar to spewing but not because they're ill or anything - just cos they're little and their tummy is still developing.

	DD does the same, but it doesn't really bother her. We went through a really rough patch and I got meds for her, but TBH I didn't like giving them to her. So I rode it out and now she's a very happy baby even though she spews everyday. I currently have a big spew mark on my jeans and also got all over the dog it stinks too. Should've really taken a pic of the dog, but he licked it all off My advice is invest in HEAPS of spew cloths ( I go through about 1 or 2 a day) and be prepared for the spewing. Try raising the head end of the cot and keep her upright after a feed for as long as possible. I would go to the GP if the spewing was upsetting her. Otherwise, (correct me if I'm wrong), but I think trying dairy free might help too. DD is FF, so not sure on the eating side of things. We have our good and bad spewing days, and I can generally tell if she's going to have a bad day.....she'll spew constantly, even hours after a feed. Oh and maybe invest in some odour spray and carpet cleaner hehe

	I'd try taking some probiotic tablets or if you can't get your hands on them then get some yakult form the supermarket. The natural enzymes will go through your milk to him and help settle his tummy if he's sick or got a yucky tummy.

	Cooper developed reflux at about 4 months too and I rang Plunketline and they said some babies do get it between 4-5 months when they start getting more active. We got some gaviscon from the doctor but it seems to constipate him a bit and since he wasn't all that bothered by it I don't think I'm going to keep using it.
