Hi
I had GD with my third pregnancy (not with first 2) and now pregnant with fourth - just wondering when you have to be tested for GD again - My midwife has mentioned it but said round 24 weeks she thinks but I read on here people are going sooner like at 14 weeks etc...
My GD was controlled by exercise and diet and didn't have to have insulin - maybe that makes a difference? Also I did not go on to develope it after Baby was born.
Just curious as what others have been doing re tests
oh I would love to know this too. I had gd with my son and managed it with diet and exercise aswell. I am seeing my mw in a couple of weeks and hopefully she will shed some light on it.
also i was wondering how many people went on to get it second time around?
I had it both times although it wasnt picked up till the very end first time and was contolled with diet (only 5 days before giving birth). second time round they tested me at around 22-24 weeks from memory, definately not as early as 14 weeks, I would be surprised if you were tested that early. Second time round I had to go on insulin but havent developed diabetes since had bubs.
Good luck
I had GD with my baby. I had to have insulin for the last 3 weeks and was induced at 38 weeks because he was getting too big. I was told I need to have annual Glucose tolerance tests and a test as soon as I get pregnant next time. I couldn't exercise because of pubic symphysis, maybe the rules are different if you needed insulin.
I've had it in both previous pregancies, so far avoiding it in this one, but with the others I started showing markers for it around 20 weeks and then started being treated for it around 27 weeks, diet controlled both times. This time I weigh a little less so I'm hoping it will be enough to keep it at bay this time, my midwife isn't that hopeful though
Mine I htink comes from that my dad has it - I do not fit into the other groups except that I had big babies and I had UTI through out Brookes pregnancy. I am not over weight so didn't come from there.
Still haven't heard from Midwife as where to at this stage bt I shall just enjoy my sweet stuff whilst i can
Oh and ice_girl - I too get checked over every year since having Rhyley (GD baby) to catch it early so to speak. All free as well They do not do the glucose test though = I get a blood test to test for the signs and a full medical - blood pressure etc....
I haven't had gd with either of my boys however Im taking part in a study for it
I am doing the fasting gd test this week
Ill get bloods, have the drink, an hour later bloods and another hour later more bloods
this is to help determine wither they need to start testing for gs earlier in pregnancy's
