The plunket nurse wants me to get Codys lazy eye checked. Can I just go to my normal optometrist or do I have to go to a specialist? And will it cost anything?

I am pretty sure a normal optometrist would be able to do it, and if need be would refer you to a specialist if he has any concerns?

ETA: Not sure if it would cost, but I assume it will.

Thanks Lil_Nic. I am hopefully going up to Auckland in a few weeks so will just pop into my normal optom and ask them about it.

If you have a community services card it is free to see a specialist up to the age of 16 - i think its limited to @$250 per year.
Personally I would see a specialist, prices vary by practice so you would have to ring and ask.

I have just got a referal from my GP to take my daughter to an eye specialist (in SEPT!) I am assuming the specialist won't cost anything and the gp didn't either.

If you are seeing a specialist in a public hospital it will be free - other wise there would be a charge (unless you have a CSC)
