Topic: Boob addict and nap routine ideas Posted: 25 June 2010 at 9:40pm |
Me again!
Ben is a boob addict and I am thinking to wean him soon as it could take a while. I had no trouble weaning Jack, his bf just seemed to reduce in duration and frequency naturally but I don't think that will happen with Ben.
Ben is probably feeding mainly for comfort now. He has a bf in his room in the quiet before his 2 naps and will usually fall asleep feeding for his first nap. He also has a bf before bedtime and during the night for comfort due to horrendous teething. I find bfing before naps good as he often gets over tired (and very upset) before a nap due to kindy drop off/pick up and other toddler related reasons etc. The bf calms and relaxes him.
So anyway my questions are, how do I go about weaning him? And what are some nap routine ideas I can use to replace the bf to help him relax before a nap?

Maybe sit down & have a special book you read?

I am not too good at reading books when they are little, he keeps grabbing at the book and trying to chew it which just gets me frustrated and defeats the purpose. I have found it is better to hold off reading to the boys as part of a routine until they are older

oh Linzy (who ever you are i share your concern)
i will watch this post carefully as i too have a boob addict and who feeds very similar to your little man. we tried to wean but he HATES the bottle. he will drink abit but in no way associates it with comfort as he does the boob! (how the hell do you substitute that)
i am the same when it comes to reading...it is just something he wants to grab and eat..haha
he is nearing one yr old and that was my limit ...i am getting abit scared of going to much over that (personally i DO NOT want to BF a walker!!..haha)

Bizzy the main reason I want to wean him is that AF hasn't arrived back yet and I was thinking I would like to start TTC #3 after xmas and as I want to try for a girl thought it best to have a few AF before so I can know my cycles a bit better. Hadn't really clicked to the fact that they will reduce once he drops to 1 nap, duh! I am a little reluctant to wean, mainly because it seems like too much work! Plus Ben is not really a cuddly baby so the only time I get cuddles are when he bfs and when I rock him to sleep. He is feeding during the night for comfort due to teething and I wasn't thinking to wean until after these teeth cut.
Maybe I see if he naturally weans when he drops to 1 nap and teething slows down. Oh I am so indecisive

Just because you haven't had a cycle where you've bled doesn't mean you're not ovulating - you could always start tracking your other fertility signs like cervical mucus, body temp, or find one of those fertility scopes like the Maybe Baby (I found it very useful).

Does that require much work though HippyMama? It just sounds a little too hard and time consuming, or maybe I am too lazy!

The temp tracking and CM monitoring can be a pain in the butt, but the saliva scope was pretty much effortless as long as you follow the instructions for it properly - I'd say it would be your easiest option to start with.
