Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what age gaps you all have between kiddies.
Our wee girl has just turned 4 months old. Before having her we decided we were going to wait until she was 3-4yo before we start trying for #2. Now that we have her, we are thinking maybe we will start trying in a few months so they are close together. We are only going to have 2 kids so think it would be nice for them to grow up together iykwim. I'm one of 6 and there is 5years between each of us and it's only now that we are older that we have really started hanging out together. It was harder when we were little cause for example, when I was 10, my brother was 15 so was 'too cool' to play with me, yet my little sister was 5 so too small to understand the games I wanted to play.
So I was really just wanting to hear your experiences. The pros and cons of both close and wider age gaps.
Thanks in advance ladies

I have big gaps between my kids... and I like it to be honest....

I'm know that I couldn't handle having two under two, but that's just me. Other people do really well..

I like that I can have one on one with #3 while the others are at school. I like that he has been able to keep up with the big kids really well.

What I didn't like was the culture shock we got after having #3.. lack of sleep etc after having 4+ years of decent sleeps.. so I found that hard.

All 3 of them are really good friends, they fight just like other kids but I think when they are older they'll be good together.

I have a massive age gap between my oldest and youngest... and wouldn't recommend 11 years LOL but I do like that I got to spend lots of one on one time with both my kids when they were/are little... My DD2 will be 3 when baby No.3 arrives which I think is a really managable age gap... and means when she goes to school I'll have 3 years with No.3.
My sis and I had 5 years between us, and although she was a right pest when I was young, she is my bestest friend now... and the age gap is nothing now!

We wanted a 2 year gap between kids but it hasn't worked out that way. We will end up with 3. I think its gonna be better actually cause Daniel has enough understanding now that we will be able to tell him what we are doing with the baby and he can help out but they will still be closish in age. He will have time out for daycare (we do daycare instead of kindy) so I'll have one on one time with bubs as well as being able to do cool stuff with Daniel when bubs is asleep

i have 13 months and love it!!! i know it wont stay as easy as it is now but i love they DS1's clothes will go strait to DS2 without needing storage or going out of fashion or season. they will (within reason) like the same toys, movies, activites etc... obviously different personalities will create differences but i have a close familt member with a 5 year ago gap and the kids are so different they struggle to do anything at all with them. i know ppl with big age gaps who havent had that problem at all but the continous sdcreaming terrified me into having my 2 close together just in case. lmao.

90% of ppl i spoke to with small gaps said the first few years were hard but worth it. i couple of ppl said it was terrible so it may be luck of the draw. so far its been really easy. long may it continue. lol

We've got 2 years 9 months and so far I love it. Ella is at an age where she can play really well by herself and can entertain herself for quite a long period of time so that's been really helpful. She LOVES helping out with Tom and will quite happily sit down with him and chatter away to him while I do some housework and Tom's favourite thing is to talk back to her. Also she goes to daycare 2 days a week, so I can get some one-on-one time with Tom. If we had another child then I would definitely be aiming for a similar age gap.

I love my 5 year age gap. They play 90% of the time & the older one is old enough to reason with & give ultimatums re arguments.

Hate my 14 month gap between me & my older brother, we just used to fight all the time right up til when I moved out of home. Slowly we are getting better friends but I prefer his wife to him! I don't think that I'm overly close with him but we do have lots of contact.

I have 13mths between my 2 girls. They are 7yrs in a week and 6yrs next month and are the best of friends but can be the worst of enemies but that is siblings for ya lol. I didnt find the early days too bad actually my oldest is an 'old soul' and she was and still is an amazing help with her younger siblings. We have 21mths between #2 and #3 and 18mths between #3 and #4, i had 4 under 5 and loved it. This age gap will be 2yrs 9mths and im more worried about this age gap than i was about the smaller ones and im worried how my youngest will take it as he has been the 'baby' for so long.

Theres a 4yr 1mth gap between jacob and isabella but thats because it took a couple mths to concive isabella, about 8-9mths after coming off pill. I wanted a 3year age gap, but waited till we got rid of our hps b4 trying. didnt think it would take ages to fall preg.

We have 2yrs 10months between ours we were aiming for 3 years but ds2 came earlier then thought. I think it is a great gap, ds1 can understand I can't always get to him straight away. I had a crap pregnancy so it was good that he didnt need to be carried and could do some things for himself. Now he is at kindy so I get to have a little one on one time with the baby. If we do have another one we are going to aim to have the same age gap.

We have a 16month gap and just love it. Obviously they are still young at this stage, but most people told me it was the first two years that would be awful. I have found the last 6months great!
I am going to be studying for the next 3years and then we plan to have another 2 and won't use contraception between them. We are hoping for about a 12month gap :)

We have 25 months between Ethan & Brooke and 19 months between Brooke & Amber.

The 25 months was great for us and I had wanted 2 years. Ethan was really good at playing by himself so he didn't mind the baby getting most of my attention (breastfeeding).

The 19 month gap will be interesting because Brooke is quite a cuddly girl so always tries to climb up when feeding and doesn't really understand when you say no or hop down.
We will see how we got still early days.

We have a 14 month age gap!

I fell pregnant with Isabella when Caden was just over 5 months. It wasnt really planned! The plan was to TTC when Caden was about 10 months old lol

I'll be honest - It was bloody hard work to start with, ajusting to having two kiddies so close together, Caden was still a baby in so many ways when Bella came along. I had an emerg c section with Caden, so ended up with an elective for Bella, so it was hard afterwards as Caden still needed to be picked up and stuff, he was still so dependant on me.
I had DH home for 3 weeks so that helepd a lot, but it was still quite hard.

Then Bella got bad reflux which made things even harder, but we got through that bad patch and now I LOVE LOVE the age gap! They are so cute together and play really well and are just the best of friends

If I could go back I wouldnt change anything though, once we got through the first 6 months things got so much easier If Bella hadnt of had the reflux those 6 months would have been a lot easier though!

With our next it will now be a 2 or more age gap, cos I need a break lol!

Thanks everyone for your responses. It has given me a lot to think about.
Sheza - I'm glad you mentioned the C-Section thing. I had to have an emergency C-Sec with Isla so will most likely have an elective next time round. I didn't think about that!
I'm now thinking we might compromise and try and aim for an 18month-2year age gap rather than 15months or 3-4yrs as we originally had planned. At least with a 2yr age gap, we can put Isla in a big bed rather than having to get another cot!

I have 17 months and I love it! We were always only having 2 kids, so love the way that our family is complete and we can get on with our lives. DH hates that they grow up so fast, but the kids are getting better everyday at playing together etc

The first year was kinda hard, but now that they sleep well (most of the time) and eat/drink the same stuff it is pretty easy.

I also had an emergency c/s with my first but i went on to have a VBAC with my second and she was even 1lb bigger than my first! Why not go for a VBAC?

Isla was 11lb 8oz so if #2 is anywhere near that size theres no way I'd go for VBAC lol. And to be honest, I just found C-Sec recovery so easy. I've talked to friends who have natural births and complained so much about the pain and recovery afterwards. I had none of that with C-Sec.
It's funny cause before I had her I was so anti pain relief and C-Secs but after my hideous 32hr labour I was screaming out for an Epi! Then ended up having the C-Sec. Was so much easier than I expected and am quite happy to put my hand up for another next time round, doesn't worry me in the slightest if I don't give birth naturally. I know I know, taking the easy way out but that's just my opinion. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not wanting to give birth naturally.

We have 22 months betweeen Lachie and Tessa and it has been really good, Lachie was old enough to help out with getting nappies etc and to love his sister right from the start, no problems with jealousy etc, and he was happy to read books with me on the couch when I was feeding her etc. Now it is great, they both eat the same (although Tessa more than her brother!) and he is just so excited that she is walking. And most of the time they play well together (lachie will be three in Aug and Tessa had just turned1) There will be 19 months between Tess and number 3 and it will be interesting to see how she deals with it, she is certainly not as laid back as her brother, Lachie is just excited and wants a boy called Car
