I had the most awful night and still not feeling well. I had eaten something that was clearly off. I don't know what as hubby is perfectly fine and we ate the same food...now I am worried silly that it was one of those that causes mc like listeria...has anyone else been sick with a tummy bug while preggo?

yea i was. try keep your fluids up is the most important thing. there are heaps of different types of food poisoning and listeria isnt one of the common ones so you should be fine. the only way to know exactly what you have is by getting a stool sample done so they can grow it and see what kind of bug has caused it. if your real worried give your mw or dr a call and ask for a lab form..how far along are you. the further along you are the safer you are but as i said there are lots of different critters that could be causing it :)

I'm 16 weeks now and I haven't had any vomiting so I am keeping all my fluids down.

busybee, I got a horrible tumy bug about 3 weeks ago. Only lasted 24 hours though which is why I knew it was a bug and then a week later DP got it as well. The bug is going around and it's not nice. It was both ends going (sorry TMI) but mostly vomiting.

I would ring your MW if you are worried it might be food poisoning.

I seem to be fine today so I'm guessing it wasn't anything too serious. I was a little panicky last night as my stomach was killing me and I didn't know what it was. A friend at work said she also had a strange 1 day stomach thing this weekend. So I think you're right about something doing the rounds.

I agree - get it checked but keep in mind Listeria is really quite rare. There are only a few reported cases every year. Chances are it's a run of the mill bug that you've got because your immunity is low.

Hi Busybee - just saw your post now

When I was 6 weeks I ate a dodgy spring roll from the fish and chip shop and woke up at 3am vomiting and err... the other end as well. I was sick all the next day but it was gone within 24 hours.

I was quite worried and I still think about it now. I met my mw for the first time 2 weeks ago and ran it by her. She said preggie women are much more susceptible to food bugs and you may get ill a few times during pregnancy. Just to be safe, I had a listeria test to check and came back clean.

As you're 16 weeks I would have thought you would be out of the danger zone as all the important organs etc are mostly formed. Is important not to worry I think - I had a friend who ate some fish that wasn't cooked through and she vomited all the next day. Every turned out absolutely fine and she now has a lovely wee girl.

Pleased you're feeling better. I got food poisoning when I was about 8 weeks pregnant - dodgy chinese food (in China, so not a lot else to eat!). I was going both ends for 3 days, and afterwards got so empty and off Chinese food that I didn't eat for 2 weeks until we came home. Couldn't even keep water down, nearly ended up admitted to a filthy hospital in provincial China (managed to get out of it!).

Baby is here now, and all fine. I couldn't stress about it, seeing as there wasn't a lot I could do about it by the time I got home. Run it by your MW anyway, just to be on the safe side.
