I used to be on the pill from when I was 16 until 22 when I got married. It took me ages to get my cycle normal again after that so I always said I wouldn't go back on it. I blamed it being long post-pill on having been on the pill (my cycle became 40 days) but then since having had baby and being off the pill for a few years it's still 40 days so I wonder if it ever was the pill's fault.

We don't want to have another baby for a few years and condoms are getting quite expensive and I'd like the backup as well, as having another right now would not be a good time for us, financially, relationship wise etc we are finally doing good with just having the one we have hehehe. So Im thinking about going back on it.

However Im a bit worried about the side effects of being on the pill- weight gain, extra hormones etc

Was just wondering about people's experiences of going back on the pill again after having a baby, which ones are good? Did you put on weight? Did you find it was a good choice? What's the mini pill like- would it be enough? Im not one of those majorly fertile people it took 9 months to conceive DS so Im not too worried about getting pregnant on the pill but at the same time I know it could happen to anyone hehe.

Any feedback appreciated

I went straight back onto the one I was on before DD. Things have settled down to how they were when I used to take it. So same side affects, but other then that no majors.

If you are still bfing your dr may be reluctant to prescribe the combined because it slows your milk production or something but mine was happy for me to go back on it.

The mini pill I was a failure with I could never remember to take it at the same time every day where as the combined you have a bigger window

If u worried about hormones why not consider a copper iud- worked well for me. I went through family planning- dr's appts there were $5 if u have community services card and free for under25 - of course that may be different in different Auck! You can get a heap of condoms from them for real cheap too.

Im in the same boat WJ. You can ask your doc to prescribe condoms and then they are cheaper.

If you are thinking about an IUD, contact the family planning clinic in Newmarket and you can get it done really cheap.

YOu can get heaps of condoms free from your G.P too. I went on the mini pill after both kids were born and really didn't like it because I had breakthrough bleeding and it messed with my hormones and made me feel very low.
I've just gone back on the combined pill and its good, haven't noticed any side effects and feel fine, haven't noticed weight gain.
You can also get the hormone implantsthat are injected under your skin.

I went on the mini pill after having my girls but as mentioned above I was constantly forgetting to take it within the 3 hour window. So went back on the combined pill I was on pre babies (which I was on from age 15 to 32 with only a couple of 6 month breaks) and all is good. No weight gain or hormonal issues either.

i keep the minipill in the bathroom and take it when i bath the girls each night. I went back on it about 6 wks pp each time and had bleeding on and off for 3 months the first time and still bleeding now. I won't use the combined pill while trying to establish BF.

My understanding is that the pill doesn't usually cause cycle problems, but it can mask them as they develop because the pill enforces the 21-day cycle regardless. So when people come off the pill they think "oh the pill did this" when actually those changes happened naturally over the 8 years you were on it but you didn't find out until you stopped.
