TMI info but last night I was up all night with diarrhea and what I would describe as contractions - intense back pain with major tightening through my bump. Today diarrhea is gone, back pain is horrible and tightenings are irregular but present and sore.

Can a bug cause your bump to contract?

This is only anecdotal but this week my cousin was in hospital at 32 weeks as her food poisoning brought on early labour. Luckily they managed to stop the labour and she's better now.

Can you call your MW?

sometimes diahorrea is your bodies way of clearing out the system before labour BUT if its not that and a bug YES you can have funny like contractions accompanying it (having Crohns deasease it happens alot to me and its not pleasant is it?!)

Diahorrea cause bowel contractions which can in turn cause uterine contractions and bring on early labour.  Call your midwife as she may want you monitored.

Definately call, I ended up in Delivery Unit with the same thing (it was because the uterus is right next to the bowel, so when you get the runs, it rubs the uterus and can cause contractions)

Thanks. Midwife said they were false labour contractions from the diarrhea. They've settled down now and I'm just very sore and tired. I had no idea a tummy bug could make your back sooooo sore!!
