Hi

I am thinking about going back to work part time in January and am thinking about child care options. Riley will be about 8 months old.

Is it still really hard to find day care in Wellington. What have people's experiences been with early childcare centres, home educators or nanny share? Please feel free to recommend your day care centre. At the moment I am living in Thorndon. Thanks

DS is in Pipitea - it's fantastic They're into the kids and have a lovely attitude.

I've heard childspace, Hill st & i-kids are all very good.

I think you've just got to get lucky. Every place that's any good has a waiting list a mile long, but they're all the same mums. I think I had my name on about 10 waiting lists. In the end I got a place due to a cancellation (just after they told me there was no space).

Home educators - I've heard good things and bad. It's all about the person you actually get.

nannies are around $18-$20 hour
In home educators $8 ish hour for under2
Childcare centres $6-8 hour

If you go with nanny or in home.. go with an agency.. you get more support, low ratios, less risk of infections, programme managers who visit your person

Childcare centres are great for children to learn from others, more resources, qualified teachers with degree etc in education, noise,

I would recommend checking them ALL out and see what kind of feeling you get.

you can check the childcare centre ERO (education review office) report online.
look for cleanliness, group size, prices,

Good Luck !!
