Topic: Power Walking Posted: 19 July 2009 at 9:19am |
Hi x
I'm sure this will be the many of several questions, so apologies in advance
I work in a bakery so I'm standing for 6hrs each day. I also power walk in the afternoons (3 or 4 days per week). It's a 10k route and I average about 7kph up and down hill. I plan to keep walking for as long as possible, although obviously as the pregnancy progresses, I'll be a bit slower and the route will get shorter.
As I'm quite fit and healthy to start with, do you think I'm OK keeping up with this routine? I guess I'll just have to see how it goes, because I don't know how tired of sick I'm going to feel over the next few weeks. I just want to make sure that it doesn't seem excessive.
Any opinions?

Hi Milliemoo,
My mw told me all good to keep exercising but not to get too hot and not to let your heartrate go above 140bpm (its not good for bubba to get too hot).
I think as long as you are feeling ok, power walking should be fine .
Hope that helps

i think you'll be fine. i walked up the hill to Vic uni until i was a week overdue and i was walking back up that same hill a week after giving birth so i reckon the longer you can keep it up the quicker you'll bounce back :)

I think the advice is generally that if you've been exercising already, then its usually fine to keep it up, but pregnancy is not a good time to start something new. You'll be fine to keep doing what you're doing

Just listen to your body, you might find you slow down naturally. I used to gym 3 times a week for about 50 mins and I gradually started doing less and less.
Now Im just down to swimming and walking at 37 weeks, get too out of breath if I do any more than 30 mins excersise a day!

I find doing plenty of walking helps to keep the aches and pains at bay. It also helps to be fit for labour - and it could be why I was back in my pre-preg jeans a week after birth
I say keep it up, and your body will tell you when it needs to slow down.
