Yay, I fit in here. This is my second pregnancy and being only 24 years old I have found out (after my first scan) that I am a high risk pregnancy too. I have a 1/22 (down dramatically from 1/948) chance of my baby being born with down syndrome or spina bifida.

I have been told about the different tests that are available and a little hesitant about the CVS amnio invasive procedure (something like that). Has anyone else been through this? There is no doubt in my mind that either way I'll keep my baby but would like to know if anyone else has been through this and what they did in this situation.

Oh, I can respond to this too!

With my first pregnancy I was 26 and had a risk of 1:55. I opted for a CVS which wasn't pleasant but I had clear ideas that I needed to know for sure if bubs had downs or not. She didn't which rocked but it was still shocking.

I am on my 2nd pregnancy now and this time the risk was actually way better (1:758 or something) but I opted for the blood test, MSS, at 15 weeks. My result came back at 1:11000 and things are looking good.

If I was you I would opt for the blood test and go from there.

With ds I was 29 and got a rist of 1:17 of a downs baby. Its pretty scary to get results like that...especially if you didn't expect it.

We did nothing. there was no way that we were going to terminate if it was a downs baby so we didn't see any need for more testing. My mw said that at the 20 week scan they can tell more because a downs baby is often smaller and has heart defects. We didn't want to risk miscarrying by doing more testing so we just waited to see what the 20 week scan said.

There is a blood test that you can do which will give you more of a result....have you done that? It used to cost about $90, but now it is funded by the government as part of the NT testing. That will apparantly give you a more accurate risk reading.

Good luck with whatever you do.

FYI we had a perfectly healthy boy :o)
