KONY2012
If you haven't yet seen this video, please take half an hour of your time (I know, it's hard to find even that but if you can you won't regret it). This is not spam.
Then share it everywhere - on facebook, via email, show your husbands... if you can't help in any other way, just get the message out there, please!

Basically this guy is and has been for years abducting children and turning them into child soldiers, making them kill their parents and turning girls into sex slaves. I'm talking tens of thousands of children.
He is doing it to retain his power. No one knows who he is.
The US have finally given their support and sent a very small number of men to assist troups in tracking him down and arresting him, but it's no where near enough.
The purpose of this video is to promote worldwide awareness and push the US to offer more support and do something more.
"The US sent 100 soldiers to Uganda to try and capture KONY and put an end to his reign however the US is threatening to pull out the soldiers because there is not enough 'support' to keep them there/deploy more. That is the main reason to make him infamous so the US government will see how passionate the people are about this cause"

I think it is a very slick awareness raising campaign. However I think it is good to have a look at a few other articles concerning this viral video and the ngo that has been set up. Not that I am in any way against awareness raising - I do however believe that we need to be critical of mass media (all media in fact) and take a look at what is being proposed as a solution for the Kony "issue"
utm_medium=socialflow">critique of the kony campaign
response to critique from IC
And if you would like to just watch a 6min video from a blogger in Uganda with her opinion of the Kony 2012 campaign 6min video

Thanks for posting that :) The main thing people keep bringing up is where is the money going... on the new IC website this is broken down. They haven't been financially audited though and don't want to.
I personally wouldn't donate money to them, although I have bought merchandise.
They're definitely succeeding in raising awareness which is really great, and if people don't want to or can't support the cause financially (or even this particular charity - I'd probably do some more research as to what other charities there are if I was in a position to donate funds), they can still help get the message out there that this IS happening and it DOES need to be stopped :)

The positive is that it has got many people thinking about others and getting them inspired to think about change. It also puts Africa on the map for many people (so to speak).
I wonder tho, if it will make people research further and continue thinking about how they can further help other nations etc.... I'm not convinced it will unless we have further amazing video displays... A great marketing tool, and yep Kony needs to go.. but so do probably a lot of leaders -
What happens after he's gone?

Who knows... they move down the list maybe?
And I agree, the hype will die down pretty fast and I don't think it will take long for most people to forget all about it!
Hopefully it's enough though and prompts america to send MORE help and to follow through with this, and not withdraw their support. If this guy is caught though, I think they'll be like - we've done our part now we don't have to do anything else.

It's not a solution to all the evil in the world, but hopefully it will help us rid of this one terrible person from the world (I know, they plan to arrest him.. but he's not gonna go peacefully so it's more likely he'll be shot). Baby steps...

I also think its great, because it makes people realise that there is so much bad stuff in this world. I do wonder how on earth they are going to get this guy when it took the full strength of the US army to catch Osama bin Ladin and it took them 10 years, and they only have 100 US consultants and a deadline of the end of the year.
