Topic: Bumps on head Posted: 18 November 2010 at 5:21pm |
Okay, you are probably gonna think I am being a dork posting this but I just wondered how big a bump would need to be to worry about it....
DS has of course fallen backwards many times as babies learning to get up do...but today he really gave his head a whack...he fell backwards onto the corner of the bookshelf which is pretty ouchy if you ask me. He wailed and carried on for maybe 2 minutes and now seems fine but seriously there is a massive bump there.....should I be worried or do I just keep an eye on him.
I mean...I assume that if there is a serious bump that is gonna make them lose conciousness it would happen right away? I totally don't know this kinda thing! hehe.

Give Healthline a call. I would probably get a large bump checked out, but I am paranoid!

I would always go on the side of caution, you simply 'never know' plus the worst that will happen is you get sent home because nothing's wrong but at least you would have peace of mind!
The thing about concussions is you can be completely normal for a while and then suddenly go down hill (happened to a relative of mine).

Hmmm its so hard isn't it??? My DS fell and hit his head on a toy a month or so back. The bump was HUGE and I was overwrought! He BAWLED for ages but then seemed fine. Healthline said if he didn't lose conciousness and wasn't vomitting, floppy etc and still eating/drinking/acting normal, not to bother going to the Dr.
It is hard not to be too overprotective, but I am paranoid about their heads esp in my DS's case where his fontanelle is still soft!

Yeah sure is hard...don't want to look like a nutty mum haha...esp since we had been to the hospital (after calling the healthline about him vomiting) the night before lol.
He seemed fine anyway, was back to normal after a few minutes so guess that everything was okay. Doesn't even seem to be a bruise there....
Am just glad for the angelcare monitor haha, else I know I would have been continually checking him.
Def nothing wrong with him today, he has been on FIRE with his cheekiness and smiles hehe.

Im more of a sit back and wait and see person, so when my kids have bad falls that like, I just watch them closely, they have always been fine so Ive never gone to the Dr's.
Things to watch for are loss of conciousness, vomitting, dizziness, eyes rolling back etc all if they stuff.
if they have a good cry but seem fine then they most likely are, but if any of the above happens definitely get to the dr asap!
Bella had nasty fall at 8 months and got a doozie of a black eye! Caden has had a few bad bumps and they look hoffific, but he's always been fine
Glad he's all good, this will be one of MANY falls Kids will be kids eh

I am dreading it...tho to be honest I thought I would be a lot more anxious than I am...he had spots all over on sat and I would have expected me to freak out haha but since he was perfectly fine in every other way I didn't worry too much.....maybe mothers instinct kicks in..

I definitely agree on mother's instinct, nothing beats it, you know your child best and if you feel something isn't wrong and no one listens then find someone who will!
