Topic: Car dilemma with 3 under 4 Posted: 10 October 2010 at 7:54pm |
We need advice. We have a third on the way due in 3 weeks and are struggling to find a car that fits 3 car seats while still having a decent amount of boot space.
Does such a used car exist at a reasonable price or are we kidding ourselves? What have others done in this situation?
We have a 3 year old, a nearly 2 year old and number 3 due in 3 weeks.
Cheers,
Tina

Not sure what you consider reasonable money, but my SIL has 3 under 4 and they fit in across the back seat of her Ford Territory just fine.

We have a Mazda 6 s/w. It fits 3 car seats across the back seat and has a great boot!
We got ours from autoselect in auckland, all their cars are nz new with full service histories, and really good prices

Also consider how wide your seats are too? You may need to buy a new car seat to fit 3 across. We found some seats are very wide and no matter how wide your car was you couldn't fit 3 across.

My friend had this same dilemma and she has just bought a Holden Berlina (older one) and it fits them all in fine. I have a holden too and it would fit three seats, (but I only need 2).
These have humungus boots on them too

I would suggest a Holden too, if you got something like a Berlina wagon it should have acres of room. We had an older Holden (98 or something) and it fitted my MB straight in the boot with room on the other side where as every other car I've had to put it in sideways, if that makes sense.

Same problem in our house too..
We are due to have our 3rd in April.. Have a 2 year old and a 1 year old..
Money is tight as ever so buying a new car is out of the option till I'm back at work.. Have you considered keeping the car you have and buying 3 compact car seats..??
We have found some carseats called: Safe N Sound Compaq which are only 42cms wide and fit 3 perfectly across our back seat..
They do retail at $350-$400 each but you may be able to shop around and get a good deal if buying 3..
BTW, we just drive a Mazda 6 sedan..
Hope this helps and good luck.. I'm so scared how I will deal with 3 under 3 - maybe we could start a new forum..

Thanks for all the feedback. I shall look into the Holden. My husband is a Holden man and refuses to buy a Ford!!! Men... I keep pointing out that it is I who will mostly be driving it!!!!
'Childsplay', all the best for number 3. I am feeling rather nervous about having 3, 3 and under. I am told having 3 is a bigger change than going to 2... We shall know soon enough.

hope you find something.
Arent the Radian carseats supposed to be narrow enough to fit 3 across? they are expensive but will be cheaper than buying a new car

LMAO Mrsb, I was the holden freak but the ford unfortunately won out on driver comfort to my utter horror but it's grown on me now
