Topic: Pregnancy after a preemie Posted: 13 June 2009 at 9:33am |
anyone here know how high the chance is of having another one this time around?
I ran the midwife - keeping the same one as I had with Bailey and Aidan however am waiting for her partner to ring me back, I need a scan to confirm dates etc

Wait... does this mean you are UTD Trish? CONGRATS!!
I think the chance of another premmie depends on why you went early last time. Somethings make it more likely to reoccur than others. Your first bub went full term didn't he? Thats a good sign. Fingers crossed you carry this one full term too
Congrats again

congrats:) as i said in pm they will refer you to hospital (not sure how far on) and they will do all the tests and stuff so that's all good...(frustrated i dont get them even though I'm at risk!! ) I'm not sure of exact risk mw said depends on reasons why and a few other factors..

Congratulations Trish! My situation is totally different from yours as there was a reason you had Aidan early but they couldn't find anything for me. i guess they will just monitor you and check for infection but hopefully it will be a smooth pg for you! All the best

My friend had a premie first time around, her cervix came open so she delivered at 28 weeks
BUT she has had two subsequent pregnancy's not a problem, full term, only thing is she's had to have caesars as she had what I think they call the classic cut the first time around. She was completely monitored via the hospital heaps more with the other two. Heaps more scans etc.
You'll be just fine

thanks everyone
Yep due 2nd feb 10 however will have a scan next week to confirm
I had aidan early due to infection in the placenta, I know at the 12 week scan the will do the internal scan to check my cervix to make sure its closed, if its not then I will have a op and they will stitch it closed
My doctor wasnt going to refer me until I reminded him that Aidan was early and why he was, he typed the referal while I was there and faxed it when he made me an appointment to get my blood tests done
Im so nervous this time!
t-rex - Yes with Bailey I went full term

I had my DD at 27 weeks (520grams) due to preeclampsia and IUGR. I have been told that I have a good chance of getting to term as they know why I had problems last time round. Unfortunatly they cant whether this one will be another IUGR baby, just depends on what my body decides to do. I will be referred to the high risk team at 20 weeks and my BP is being closely monitored and I also have to take asprin. Hoepfully I can avoid having to go onto BP medication.
I think if they know why you delivered early then it is a bit easier to try and atleast prevent it.
Good luck hun, I know how scary it is. I have sooooo many questions and I worry constantly that I will have another preemie. Something that I never want to go thru again. Was the hardest 13 weeks of my life.
How big was Aidan??
