My DS has just gone 10 months (where has the time gone!) This is usually how our day goes:

7am ish - wake and bf
9am ish - sleep
10.30am ish - snack
11am ish - bf
12pm ish lunch
1pm ish - sleep
3pm ish - bf
4pm ish - snack
5.30pm - dinner
6.30pm - bf
7pm ish bed

Also feeds once or twice in the night!!!

So currently he is having four bf's a day, but only one side for each. Should I be cutting one of the feeds? I think by the time he is one he should only be on bf's morning and night, is that right?

From memory what you have was very similiar to what we did, but fed both sides. Had one dream feed at 10pm before I went to bed and no night feeds.

Just gradually changed really. Gradually the mid morning one became post lunch/sleep and the mid afternoon one went (9 -10 months??). Then dropped the lunch one as I kept forgetting it and she didn't want it.

Can't remember when we went to two feeds, possibily around 1 (but dream fed for another month and then got over the fear and ditched it - yeahah nights out again!). i do know some 1 year olds who feed more than twice and DD will occassion have a post nap one too.

They "say" they should have about 3 bf during the day, but I wouldnt worry too much, Tyler is nearly 13 months and he has about 5-6 during the day and 1 overnight so I dont think its something that you 'need' to do IYKWIM? whatever works for you both

We are on 3 - at 6am, wake up, around 11 then before bed at around 7.pm. I started this around 9 months, and suited DD fine , but then every baby is different. I felt that she was getting enough solids and she seemed to be playing a bit rather than feeding. I say do what is best for you!

My 16mo DD2 is having 3 feeds a day, I'm happy, she's happy - so it's no problem.

I always take what "they" say you "should" do in terms of the number of breastfeeds with an enormous grain of salt - yes it still falls into the range of 'normal' at 10mos for a baby to be having only 4 feed, but there isn't an obligation for you to cut down.

That sounds about right, but then again - your baby will guide you!

Lily, 9.5mo has 3-4 during the day depending on when she wakes up. She still feeds about 2-3x over night so basically a typical day for us (we'll use yesterday and today as an example)

Yesterday she woke at 6am had a BF and slept in until 8am, got up and had breakfast and then another bf at 11am and a nap until 12.30, then at 3 she had a BF and slept until 4pm, had a BF at 6pm before bed. So a total of 4 BFs during the day but had 2 feeds over night.

Last night she had 3 feeds and woke today at 7.30am and had first BF at 9.30am before her first nap, she slept until 11.30 and had lunch etc and a bf before her nap at 2.30 - 4.30 and then a bf at 8pm before bed (did the groceries hence it being so late other wise her bed is about 6.30-7pm)

(Though with the weather being warmer she has increased the length of her naps from 40-60 mins - 1.5-2 hours and thus she is normally BFing about 3x a day though sometimes 4.

I had another thought reading Nicole's post, in that with the recent humidity, your breastmilk will change to help quench bubs thirst - less fatty hindmilk and more watery foremilk, and this is nature's way of providing optimal hydration for them (which I think is pretty neat).

I have noticed that she's gone from one side per feed to 2 sides a feed, and had wondered if it was due to that!

DS is almost 1 and still having 5-7 BFs in a 24 hour period.
I talked to our local La Leche League lady and she said every baby is different and it varies hugely. She knows 1 year olds who are on only 1-2 feeds a day and she knows some that are still on 7 or more a day and she's met babies that can be anything in between.
It's all normal and natural and they will drop feeds off as they see fit.

I should say also DS is getting 3 solid meals plus 1-2 snacks a day as well.
