Over the last couple of days, my 15 week old has been refusing to sleep during the day. She screams and cries whenever we try and put her down for a nap. She fights her swaddle, and squirms and screams, even unswaddled. She is getting more and more tired (and so am I), and I know the more tired she gets the harder it is for her to drop off. Previously, while not a great day time sleeper, with a little help we can get her to sleep 1-3 hours each time, 3-4 times a day. It has been hotter recently, so I dont think its just the heat, and we have a fan going. Its getting to the point at the moment that we cant even rock her to sleep she is resisting that much. I believe she is too young to be left to cry it out, and I'm not sure if I could sit here and listen to her anyway. When we do manage to get her to sleep, she wakes up again after anything from 5 to 45 mins, and to get her back to sleep is more of the same long battle. I tried feeding her to sleep (I dont want to get into that habit but was getting desperate) but she still woke up again 5 minutes later. She is ok getting to sleep at night, once we get past that 'totally over tired and cant sleep' hurdle, and she is still sleeping 9-10 hours over night. Its gettign very hard to go anywhere as she isnt her usual cheerful self, just a tired, grouchy little baby.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Ooooh, I SO know how you feel. I can't offer a huge amount of advice, because we've got the same issues, but I can commiserate!

I wrote a similar thread a while ago and lots of people had good ideas to try - I'm trying to find it for you and will post a link if I do. Sadly, not too many of the suggestions helped, but they might help you, and I found the sympathy from other Mum's who'd been there really helpful anyway, it's SO nice to know you're not alone (and also not alone in being driven crazy by it!!)

When Jacob was about your daughters age, I found a dummy incredibly helpful. Someone on here suggested it, and the people at the Family Centre backed that up, and although I wasn't keen on the idea at all I tried it and fell in love with the thing I used to pop it in and he'd go suck-suck-suck and off to sleep, and then when he woke after half an hour I'd pop it back in and often as not get another sleep cycle. Now it doesn't seem to help for that second cycle, but it still helps him get off to sleep.

I reckon just do whatever works - rocking, feeding, whatever, if it's got a chance of working don't worry about people saying it's a bad idea - and hang in there. (I know at this point you're probably thinking that *nothing* works... I'm kinda in the same boat... but I suppose some things work a little bit less badly than others!!) I keep reminding myself that it's only a short time in Jacob's life that he'll struggle with sleeping, and that lots of other babies have had the same problems and haven't ended up permanantly damaged.

ETA - I found the thread I started, you can read it here

Thanks Hopes. Are things better for you and Jacob? I love the 'boo hoo face' - Samara looks just the same. I must take a photo one day soon to remind her when she's bigger

I'll have a read of that thread later - right now I'm about to try a last feed before bed. Assuming she'll go quietly...

I'd just love to know what has changed in the last couple of days to turn her into a screaming mess at nap / bed time. She used to be so much easier!
