Ok, so a few days ago I discovered I had thrush. Lovely.

I went to the chemist and after a long talk with the pharmasist, she gave me the one day pessary, which I used on Monday night.

My question is, how long does it take to go away? Its now Thursday and I still feel rather uncomfy despite continuing to use the cream externally.

Any words of the wise would be helpful!

TIA

Hi, I had mild thrush a few weeks back after having a course of anti-biotics for the flu.
The pharmacist wouldn't sell me much for it because of being pregnant so she made me buy Canestan topical cream. (I'm not sure what a pressary is sorry).
I put the cream on thick and - (sorry TMI) put as much of it as possible in the vagina, well the entrance of. I did that for 3 or 4 days and then the symptoms went, so I'm rather happy with the treatment and results.
I've only had thrush twice in my life so not sure if what I had was mild, normal or what. You're supposed to keep applying the Canestan cream for 6 or 7 days but I only did about 4 days.

The only time I ever had thrush I cut out sugar foods and started eating a lot of active yogurt and it cleared up quick smart. Sugary foods tend to feed thrush so should be avoided.

I get thrush all the #$*% time, esp in pg....I second what Tracey has said about sugar...and yeasty foods. Plus natural yogurt in the vagina can be soothing (although be careful about using tampons to insert it..I woudn't so check with your mw). Lotsa water and just anti thrush cream (health stores sell the more 'natural stuff  if you prefer that to Canestan etc) help. Plus go knickerless as much as poss. Urgh thrush is awful, I'm so jealous of women who never seem to get it!

I also get it all of the time due to being a diabetic and it only gets worse when im pregnant, My ob has prescribed me Nilsate cream this time and I have found that works really well. I also agree with avoiding the sugary foods which also includes not eating a huge amount of fruit ( which is normally my problem ).

If its still bothering you, ask for the six day canestan cream. It comes with applicators. This always works well for me, I find the pessary's don't really work that well. The six day cream is recommended if you've had it for more than a day or two. You can use the applicators but don't insert them quite as far as you normally would if not pregnant.

Yeah I'd say if you're still uncomfortable then it hasn't worked and to get a longer course of it. Pessaries work better than the cream if you're getting up to go to the loo a lot in the night because they don't come out as quickly but otherwise the cream is the way to go.

Totally feel your pain. I got thrush twice last pregnancy and I'm sure this pregnancy will be the same.
