Topic: Fertility Naturopath? Posted: 19 December 2010 at 11:59am |
Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has enlisted the help of a naturopath to help with TTC and general fertility, and if so:
How did you find it?
What did you have to do?
How long before you noticed any difference?
How did you choose which one to use?
and of course, any success stories?
Thanks,

Yep, I had success with a naturopath Mine was in Rotorua.
He put me on a Blackmores prescription supplement, Vit E & I think one other thing as I can't remember now.
Started the 3rd day of my period....never got another one
I don't think it was a fluke as we'd been trying 16 months & hadn't done anything differently. I had just started the initial blood testing for going down the Fertility treatment. When I spoke to my Grandma after we got preg, she told me that she had difficulty conceiving her second child & that she was advised to eat lots of banana's, which coincidently potassium was part of the Blackmores supplement.
Not sure what my issue was but I'd had two miscarriages in the time that we were trying as well. My first child was an "accident" so to then turn around and have to continually try was quite difficult.
Cross fingers a naturopath can help you too.

Hi Scaredycat, I haven't used a naturopath as yet, but I am planning to visit one in Papamoa (noticed you are in Katikati). I found the website and it has a section for fertility so thought it might be good to see them. I did see a naturopath a few years ago not for TTC, but it was really good and I got a lot out of it. The website for the one in Papamoa is
http://www.baynaturopath.co.nz/.
Hope that helps

Hi Scaredycat
Sorry to hear you've had such a long hard TTC road. I really hope a naturopath helps you get your happy ending as it did for us!
Long story short - almost 3 years of unexplained infertility. DH test results = superman. Looked like I was ovulating normally. Lap and dye showed perfect insides. No history of endo or PCOS or anything. We were perfect but still no baby!
In desperation I went to a naturopath who took a full medical and fertility history (took my last few temp charts to show her) and prescribed Natural Fertility Management supplements NFM Products
I've always had spotting a few days before AF and as soon as I started taking these it disappeared! Within two months of starting we had our long awaited BFP. Which did coincide with the first round of clomid as well, but my naturopath pointed out that if clomid was the whole reason then everyone who took it would get UTD the first time too!
I definitely believe these "magic pills" made the difference and I'm planning to take them right through my pregnancy and while BFing, with the guidance of my awesome naturopath.
I already knew of her through word of mouth but as the others have said, do some research and find one that (preferably) specialises in fertility.
GL and best wishes

I went to see a naturopath a few weeks ago (on about CD24). . . she wanted me to commit to NOT ttc for at least 3 months (which I had to think quite hard about!).
I'd been thinking about this for a while - tried acupuncture last year with no (discernible success - I too have much spotting between ov and af). I spoke to a friend I hadn't seen in a while about my last/3rd mc and she recommended this naturopath lady (actually, is there a difference between naturopath and herbalist - I think the lady I saw is herbalist)
The lady I saw does kinesiology/muscle testing to figure out what I might need . . . I have an open mind.
For now I am on Vitex twice a day (disgusting!!), co-enzyme Q10 twice a day, heme 100 twice a day and a super B multivit.
She was quite specific with the brands too, as I wondered if I could not just go to the supermarket/healthstore and buy similar (given that I was on a multi vit and ferrograd already). Had to ring up 3 different companies to get stuff sent out to here (not everything might be in your naturopaths stock, the vitex was, for me).
I've took the prescribed stuff (Vitex) twice a day since 4th Dec (and as the pills were delivered) religiously, except last night when I wasn't feeling well and ended up spewing.
The first visit was 90 mins and I go back in 2 months to check progress.
So far my cycle is WEIRD, last month (if you want to check, I'm not sure if its still in Charting Girls thread)
Usually I get a clear biphasic pattern with ov between CD14-17, last cycle was none of this. I still had the spotting. This cycle my temp seems quite high for where I am. Watching and waiting.
Hope this answers your questions a little

Thank you so much for answers ladies, that has given me a bit more encouragement.
I enlisted the help of a lady in Auckland (she was recommend to me) awhile back but have been a little bit hesitant in going full hogg down that line due to the conflict of interest with FA but now that that door has been closed I think we can finally go ahead with the naturopath's ideas.
AandC'Mum, that is fantastic news that it worked so quickly for you, wow, I could only dream of that outcome!!
Lou, thanks for the link to a local one, for some reason I never thought to search locally, I am happy with the one I am with as she has already started with the hair analysis, BT's and knows quite a lot of our history but perhaps if I need a second opinion the local business could be worth a go. In the other forum another person has also recommended a local business called Patient Advocates, not sure if you have heard of these also?
Huge congratulations Anja22 that is the best possible outcome, the link you posted is the name of some of the pills my naturopath has already prescribed, so fingers crossed they work as well for me as they did for you!
Thanks for that Spanky77, I've been told to stop TTC for 3 months too, its a very hard thing to get my head around also, after almost 7 years trying! Interesting about the accupuncture, I too have tried this with no real shown difference. Would love to hear how you get on over the next little while, fingers crossed its just what you need.
Thanks again!

Hi, in our journey with TTC #2 (conceiving #1 took us 5 years to be successful), I have tried the natural approach. I have been to a naturopath, who made some dietary recommendations, and supplement recommendations. I haven't noticed a vast improvement from these, other than I've lost weight. However I found that you do need (well I did) to be quite strict and stick to it fairly rigidly for it to have any effect.
Depending on your situation, it certainly can't hurt. It will hopefully help your body get into balance, and hopefully correct whatever is preventing conception naturally.
However, what I did find worked when TTC#1 was acupuncture and herbs. We'd been TTC for 5 years, and I tried acupuncture and herb treatment, and had a positive within 2 months treatment. I had used acupuncture and herb treatment 2 years before, and conceived but lost that pregnancy. With no other pregnancies in the whole 5 years TTC, it showed me that it definitely works. We're trying it again with TTC#2.

Thanks for that Ooligator, that is really interesting. I have been thinking about trying accupuncture again and my naturopath def recommends it so I may give it a go again. If nothing else I always found I was nice and relaxed afterwards which has to be a bonus on this stressful journey!
We have unexplained infertility which sucks, I ovulate fine and my partner has no issues with sperm etc. We managed to conceive twice with IVF but lost both of those unfort, so willing to give anything a go!

we used a naturopath successfully :)
I was on the depo provera for 9 years, no periods at all, my last injection ran out in november 2008, and i went to see the naturopath in march 2009.
she gave me herbal tonics to take, and some vitamins (zinc, vitamin b, and something else)... I had my first period in 10 years that month, and we had our BFP the next month in April.
She also advised us not to ttc for awhile, and I said no.. however she said it was because my hormones may not be able to sustain the pregnancy so I had to be aware of that, and also took herbs through the first trimester

I did for my first pregnancy, she made up herbal mixes for me that suited me personally rather than something off the shelf. She also did acupuncture so I did that too.
For the naturopath side of things she asked lots of questions and I took the herbal stuff (not that yum TBH) and tried to eat a few healthier things.
I noticed a difference in my skin quite quickly which was quite cool as I'd had bad skin for years so that gave me confidence that it was doing something (my diet wasn't changed enough for it to be that). Then I remember after 6 cycles (I was charting) I did a big comparison and there was quite a major difference in the last 3 from the first 3. They looked a lot more ideal. The following month I got my BFP . So 3 months before I noticed changes in my charts.
How I found her was quite random. I'd been talking to a friend at lunch about maybe getting acupuncture and going to a naturopath. I went back to work and there was this small expo thing there with maybe 15 or so health stands and there happened to be someone doing iridology and so I got that done and was chatting to her and found out she did acupuncture and naturopathy so decided it was fate and I should go to her
