Topic: Vitex? Works? Posted: 07 January 2011 at 5:56pm |
Anyone find their cycle actually deteriorated on this stuff. I'm taking 2ml twice a day, since Dec 6th (which was about CD 24 and annovulatory by the looks of it). So only about 6 weeks. I think I read somewhere that it can take up to 6 months to regulate things, but hopefully I will either be in ivf cycle by then, or not able to ttc (chromosome issue, don;t know how many sperm are affected)
I've had spotting for the last 2 years but this is getting more like light bleeding now, my temps this cycle are rubbish, all over the place, my skins breaking out, I ovulated late with a rubbish temp rise.
I'm wondering if its the vitex, things are worse, not better. I go back to the naturopath in about 2 weeks for 'review' and if things haven't worked I think she will just tell me to carry on for another month and review after that
How was it for you?

hey spanky,
I have to say I am sure it helped balance things out for me after my mc.
I think if your hormones are way out of whack then it can take a while for them to balance out to what they should be. Your hormones changing could be indicated by the break out? If its an annovulatary cycle how long do you wait before taking provera?
If it was me I would keep taking it, its not going to hurt, and if your naturopath isn't happy she might up the dose or change something else.
All the best

second to last cycle was apparently annovulatory (not sure if its visible in charting girls now, just got af yesterday, so probably not)
There was nothing remotely biphasic, but af came around CD 27 or 28, which, if annovulatory, I should have bled a couple of days after the failed ovulation, not 10 days later?
Last cycle, pre ov temps quite high, but mountainous, and post ov (FF says around day 20, I wonder if it was just when I got the positive OPK, with a very slow rise) according to FF I had LP of 7 days! I'm usually about 10 or 11 on LP but with lots of spotting and occasionally random clots. Also having leaky nipples, have done since mc in 09, but prolactin was ok last time. Will get it checked again though
I'm starting to think my egg quality might not be so hot . . . the temps are quite rocky and I think the progesterone isn't what it should be, I dunno.
Sick of beating my head against a brick wall.
I gues Vitex does jack for egg quality. Thanks for responding Emmi. I know the usual response for Vitex seems to be quite good.

Hey Spanky, I found the tincture (which I assume your using) did nothing at all for me, and in fact my cycles got worse with more spotting. I also found the Thompsons didn't do the trick either. However, I then tried Natures Way and it was awesome! Nearly completely stopped my spotting between periods, significantly reduced the length of my cycle (from about 90+ days to approximately 40ish) andgave me a normal length AF which actually felt like an af (I hadn't had them like that for a very very long time)... and I got UTD...

How long are your cycles normally? Are your temps very accurate? I found that leaving the thermometer in after its beeped (or warmed it up before putting in my mouth) made them a bit more accurate (maybe something to try and see if it makes any difference?)
I would think (but I dont know) that annovulatory cycles would be random lengths (and possibly longer?) rather than the same?
B6 is also good to take, it can lengthen your LP (which it looks like your a bit short on?)
Have you talked to your GP about getting CD 2 bloods done? As thats the one that tests egg quality (if your concerned) also see if you can get the CD21 (7DPO) bloods done if you can to check progesterone (if you havnt already) might give you some ammo to get some more tests done if needed?

Hi Freckle! I was in your due thread till your dates got moved forward. Wow, not long for you now.
Yes I use the tincture (if its the one that tastes like sh*te). The naturopath I saw did this kinda leg-movey kinesiology on me for specific brands. I'm trying to keep an open mind to trust that my leg muscles know what I need.
To clarify, I do normally have a cycle length of about 27-29 days, ov day is not consistent. because of the spotting can be so heavy, its hard to distinguish between spotting and light flow, and this is from ovulation to af, occasionally have a few spot-free days. I've had 2 annovulatory cycles since I've been taking closer notice of my cycle, ie in 3 years. I believe I usually ovulate, but that the lining of my uterus is not sustained fully until af, whether that is progesterone, egg quality, or a dicky lining issue.
I have had Day 2 bloods - FSH and LH all smackbang within normal range. Day 21 done twice, 1st time P4 was 46, 2nd time (actually done on CD24) P4 was 13. Have taken Provera once before - ended up being 5 weeks pg, stoopid dumbass GP. So technically, no, its not worked for me!
Have been temping about 2 years now . . . thermometer goes in same part of mouth every morning. I find if I take me temp 3 times, they can range drastically. I would have thought with the warmer weather it wouldn't have been so much of an issue.
Have been through the recurrent mc clinic and had probably most tests done, lining sample with pipelle (issue is paternal chromosomes apparently, but I can't help feeling there's something going on here, but apparently its "not a concern according to the doc. I'd hate to get through an ivf cycle to confirm its me with issues too)
Have been taking Bcomplex multi every day since forever, which contains 50mg of B6. Had read conflicting stuff on this so didn't try this before now in the last 2 years
