Topic: First period after baby Posted: 23 March 2011 at 10:06am |
AF returned the other week - unlike some ladies, I was thrilled, because I really want to know what my cycle does after having a baby - also, Jacob's a cutie, and I wouldn't mind a brother or sister for him
But, what did worry me was that it was damn painful! As background, I had an op for endo just before we conceived Jacob, and they cleared quite a lot out. I'd been having painful periods before that, but never got to see if the op stopped the pain, because I got UTD before my next AF even. But this one was one of the worst I've had, I couldn't even think about sleeping one night.
I'm not too fussed about the pain, honestly, but I'm a bit worried that my endo has come back since he was born or something? What was your AF like first cycle after a baby, is a more painful one a normal thing while your body gets used to the process again? (I'm hoping so...!)

My first AF was reallyreally light, more like 3 days of spotting really, with no warning signs.
But, my second AF was quite painful and really heavy, and pre-baby I never used to get any pains whatsoever. I've just recently had my 3rd AF and its now back to normal flow wise and no pain again.
Hope that helps somewhat.

Mine was just bloody awful. No pain but just extremely heavy bleeding so much I had to go to after hours doc to get medication to control it!!! Couldn't even go to work. Next few after that were still heavy but have settled down lots.

Now I'm scared because mine were always painful before I had a baby. Don't really want them to be even worse when the time comes!

Mine was shocking - I had heavy flooding (a pad couldn't contain it) and really bad pain. The ones afterwards weren't so bad, they got progressively lighter each time. My cycles weren't the same as pre-pregnancy either.

Ooh, well, that's encouraging! Sorry for you guys who have always found them more painful... but at least that suggests it's most likely not the endo back or something scary

My first one was probably a doddle compared to most ladies, but it was still much heavier and much more uncomfy than usual for me. My second was 6 weeks later, and light and painless as usual for me. Never got to a third
Fingers crossed you don't either

My first after baby felt a lot worse to me BUT I'm not sure if thats cause it was actually worse or it had just been so long I'd forgotten lol. I have no idea about the one after that as, as you can see I'm UTD again :D

I just got my AF back for first time last week and it was pitiful. Just a bit of spotting over 3 days and that was it. No pain at all..... hopefully it's not the calm before the storm! My AF pre pregnancy was all over the show, sometimes I'd get it once a month, then other times it wouldn't come back for 3 months but then it would last 3wks. Hopefully it sorts itself out now

My first AF was pretty heavy too, and ever since having kids I get wicked ovulation pains!

My first was quite heavy but no pain, the second was 2 months later and the same- but I have an IUD so that might be the case?

From memory, my first period after Campbell was born was fairly light and short, then the second one was a lot heavier and more painful. Since then though, they have generally been pretty similar to pre-Campbell AF's, except a little less painful on average.
Hope this is a one-off for you, and that its not an indication of the endo coming back.

I also have endo and got my period quickly. I am glad to read all these posts as I off to the specialist again next week - as I also thought my endo was back and I rather enjoyed the break from it. Maybe I am normal!!
