We've got 6 teeth, at first it was a bit pinchy while she adjusted her latch but don't even notice anymore. Just takes you both about a week or so to get used to them!
I'm the same re pasta, potatoes, veges and salt lol but improving!

Hehe, steamed pasta could be interesting?
DD has 12 teeth now, and is working on her canines atm, but it was only the first few that were a problem and they came right once they stopped hurting her. She'd bite with the bottom ones as the top ones were coming through. She also bit with her ear troubles, but that's unique to her.

Food without salt has no flavour, bland food may be ok for babies not for me.
I don't mind cooking DD's separately as hers will need to cool down enough for her to be able to eat it and still eat with us. Long ways to go before I have to worry about that though.

We don't cook with much salt here either.
But I still cook most of DS's food seperately, with me not earning we are eating pretty cheap crap for dinners, not what I want him eating really.
DS is loving yoghurt now, and I'll mix it with some jarred fruit sometimes - he's getting good at using a spoon!

We started about 6.5 months CJ, when DD was showing the signs.
Have you read the book?? Thats great at answering all your questions.
No purees here, its not BLW if you do purees as well... We decided to trust DD and our instincts and just do BLW...

DS is going to be 6mths on Friday which also happens to coincide with when DP is off work so we thought we'd offer him his first foods at lunch time on Friday...we can't wait!! I don't know how people 'know' their child is 'ready' for solids - DS puts everything into his mouth and grabs at everything I have whether it's edible or not!! We're just going to offer and see what happens...it's all for fun at this age anyway!
Have to remember to get a plastic tablecloth for the floor!!

I don't know either mealz, DD shows all the signs of being ready for solids, accept that she isn't 6 months old yet and she's not hungry after a milk feed in fact she's thriving on bm alone.
I've read the book and am happy with most of it, I like the idea of doing both and seeing how DD responds.
Best advice I read was getting a cloth table cloth so it can go straight into the wash, prob use a sheet.

We did do purees but we were about 95% BLW - just used home made purees/mash which was pretty much just soup or mashed vegies we were having. Mil did give pureed jar fruit flavours occasionally though. DD responded well to both but she was more than competent to feed herself and much preferred it over us feeding her and we can't even get a spoon near her since 9 months!
We used a plastic table cloth - just wipe it off.
I was told the best sign of them being ready is to star with them sitting upright on your lap while you are eating and if they are grabbing stuff off your plate and putting it in their mouth (or biting bits off) and chewing and then swallowing then they are ready.

We started at 5.5 months, he was grabbing for our food by then! I don't know if he was 100% ready then, but hey.
We've been doing some purees as well, either jarred stuff or yoghurt with some fruit puree mixed in. I load up the spoon for him, so he is always in control. And sometimes he only wants purees, for some reason. I'll give him finger foods and he'll cry and hold his hand out for a spoon But I guess giving it to him then is following his cues, so thats ok.
