Ollie has done poos today (he's a once every 4 - 5 days baby) and they are much firmer than I normally see. Not hard or constipated, but very solid and formed. Any ideas why that would be?

He's not on any solids yet, just breast milk. No formula.

I have just reintroduced dairy into my diet after being off it for a while to see if it would help with his reflux. I have not noticed any other symptoms of him being intolerant since the reintroduction, and anyhow, would you not expect to see more runny poo if it was the dairy?

He's also had a cold and I think was drinking a little less than normal, but certainly hasn't seemed dehydrated and can still dribble just as copiously as usual!!

Not worried, but would like to know the cause if possible, as he did have to strain quite a lot to go today.

I wouldn't worry about it since he's not straining, or in pain or anything. It could be something you've eaten perhaps. I would just keep an eye on it and if it continues, perhaps call healthline or something.

I wouldn't worry about it either. I think it's most likely that he was slightly dehydrated from the cold. I found that DS's poo was sometimes quite thick and tacky and other times more runny when he was exclusively BF...   More exciting now that we've started solids though!

Iv been worried a bout my daughters poos too. She had her last seedy looking poo at 2weeks old when she started getting a rash (took 8 weeks for doc to listen to me and take a swab, was candida/staph). Sometimes she has slimy mucusy poo with some green, today was the first time there has been abit of green in past 2 weeks. Nurses, docs, plunket says shes fine. Does your little one get a funny green colour tint when they do poo? I have had less dairy then normal and take lactos drops (natural rem my mum makes). I was thinking if it was my lack in dairy. Did the poo change when you started back on dairy?

the green tint is normal and means that they have just not had enough of the fatty hindmilk, if its bright green its not great and call your dr, but a green tint and bit of mucous is normal for a bf baby, when you breastfeed just offer the same breast that you finished on the time before and they should get more of the fatty milk

over the night and today shes had massive green goos just like between week3-9. i always have put her on the same side till she makes it quite clear its time to swap. also i express sometimes and had a good amout of fat in it. saw plunket today they couldnt figure it out..again. yesterday i touched it for some reason and the little seedy bits that are rare now crumbled to a powder, today it was soft seedy bits after giving her about 20mls of water last night. she was pushing it out very hard.

Probotics - either as powder in the bottle or paste on your nipples - can sort out green poos. Recommended by a naturapath. Worked for use.

Green can also be caused by how much green food you eat in your diet. If you eat lots of green leafy veges then your milk is going to be coloured!
