Topic: Starting exercise again Posted: 19 February 2009 at 1:48pm |
Before I got preggers I was doing running and walking on my treadmill to loose weight. Then basically since I got a BFP I've done nothing, mostly because of morning sickness. But that is now at the point where it is only really bothering me in the evening so I figure I can start doing some exercise again when Daniel has his nap as I feel pretty good, just a bit tired then.
But the thing is after not doing anything for 3 months I can notice that my fitness has slumped so I'm not sure how much I could/should do. I'm only going to do walking as running would hurt my giganta boobs plus that would be like trying to retrain my body again.
Any ideas on how much should be fine? or a speed I should aim for, or distance. I don't want to gain sh*tloads of weight again either.
(I know I shoulda asked my MW but I forgot lol)

I would just start with a gentle walk in the mornings, up the road and back and then gradually walk further as you start to feel better, and once you have been back into it for a while you could do a more brisk walk, just wear a tight top to hold ya boobs down if they hurt.
Also, maybe while Daniel is napping you could try some pregnancy yoga, I saw a heap of books in the library on it and Im going to try it, to help me relax and keep my musles all toned and stuff for labour.
Also things like exercise on a swiss ball is good.

id suggest a 20 min each day but build up how fast and how much you exert yourself until your fitness builds up. your weight should be fine as long as you dont eat more than you normally would when you were watching your weight. as babe grows bigger add another 300 or so calories but dont go mental. i stopped eating junk when my weight ballooned at 5 months and have lost 5kg of the excess i put on just from cutting out the extra junk so dont stress too much about heavy exercise especially if your not feeling well or tired just try be sensible and you should be fine :)

When I was pregnant and exercising I was told that it was important not to let my heart rate get up over 140 and obviously to listen to my body, if I got tired or felt any discomfort during exercise I was to stop.

I did pregnancy yoga and can't recommend it highly enough - loved it and think it was really helpful for labour too

I found swimming really good, took all the weight off and definately don't have to worry about hurting the boobs!

This is what I was told as well. I was pretty fit pre-bubbas and when pregnant I could walk 30 mins.
I found pregnancy aquafit classes to be brilliant as well.

I don't really want to do the pool thing. Like actually I'd love it but with a toddler it's not so fun, he would get bored as with me walking up and down a pool and his toddler pool activities don't give me exercise unless he escapes lol
I might stick with 20 mins for the first week and see how I go
