Topic: Baby Shower? Posted: 26 February 2009 at 10:41am |
Hi There
I am wondering if you lovely ladies can help me.
I have recently recieved an email from an ex best friend (long story) telling me to throw a baby shower for another friend, due with her second girl at the end of April.
Now normally I wouldnt have a problem with this but I feel like I am being manipulated into the situation. I am not even that good of a friend to the pregnant one, we are so differnt and she drives me nuts. The ex best friend is telling everyone we are now best friends just so she doesnt have to feel guilty of stealing all my other friends. I am sorry I know I have issues.
Anyway I thought I would try and be a nice person and talked to the pregnant friend about maybe having a morning tea with maybe a few baby shower games in for fun. The pregnant one wasnt too keen on the idea, she just wants presents.
I feel so wrong throwing a baby shower for someone I dont get on that well with, when this is her second child, she had a big party for her first only a year ago so really doesnt need much stuff,. And all because she wants everyone to come and give her presents...?? Am I being unreasonable?
And then I was thinking if I dont throw it everyone will think I am doing it to spite the ex best friend because she told me to do it and I dont want to listen to her.
The pregnant one doesnt even like the ex best friend but I now feel as it was her suggestion I would be obligated to invite her.
Ahh Girls are catty! This is pathetic.... Do I throw the shower or not?? Please Help!

I wouldnt if your not really her friend then no, and not for her 2nd child I would understand if there was a huge gap between her children but there isnt so shes just being greedy and isnt shy of saying so. So no if you have nothing to loose which it sounds like you dont then dont so it!

I probably wouldn't throw one either especially as it is her 2nd and she had one for her 1st baby, especially as she just wants the gifts!

well im stubborn , so I wouldnt do anything someone told me to do
Id just refuse to do it, especially if you dont even like her that much , or if you feel uncomfortable outright refusing , just lie and say something has come up .
Most baby showers ive known of, including my own were organised by friends that were genuinely excited about the baby -you have no obligation to be, nor do you have any obligation to throw her a shower.

I wouldn't either. Honestly, what have you got to lose by saying no?

Wow, no way.
I would be standing my ground on this one. who does she think she is, actually either of them for that matter. I wouldn't throw her a shower.

No way and if she had one with her first baby then i dont really think she needs another one. I can't understand why people have more then 1 baby shower i thought it was just for your first baby, but maybe i'm wrong.

No way should you feel forced into giving a baby shower to someone you don't like and who doesn't seem to deserve it either. It all seems like hard work on your part, and doesn't sound like either of them would be grateful.
