My 10 week old daughter uses dummy. She doesn't use it all the time and can often go through the night without us having to put it back in. But most of the time she does need it to go to sleep. I generally try to keep it to a bed time thing but she will use it during the day too if she's really unsettled.
I want to wean her off it in the next couple of months (by 6 months at the latest) and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to do this.

Bexta don't worry yet, honestly Lachie was the same up until a few days ago and now he won't touch it.
I used the dummy to get him to sleep and before he was deep asleep if he hadn't spat it out I would take it out, so he wouldn't be used to sleeping with it in.
I did this with my first too and he also lost interest in sucking it at all.

Yeah our DS just didn't want/need it after 6 months. Only place he still uses it is the gym creche to go to sleep but alot of noise there so I think that just helps with a sleep association.

We weaned Jacob off his at 5/6 months - but for now, I'd just happily use it and not worry. They're a great help while they're little, and although the idea of weaning Jacob off was a bit scary, it wasn't that bad in practice.

That's good to hear. I only ask because my stepdaughter is 19 months and still has hers, won't go gto sleep without it and will often wake up to find it again, which is something I want to avoid with DD.

From what I've read, it gets tougher the longer you leave it after that 6-month mark. Not that it was totally easy or anything - we had three days of disrupted sleep, and quite a few tears on the first day - but I'd happily have that for the benefits he got from it in the earlier months.

Lily self weaned by 10 months (hurray!) but I still have a 3 year old who keeps finding them in the woodwork and argh!

Well I probably don't need to worry about the dummy because she spent about 10 mins today trying to shove her thumb in her mouth! She was getting a bit frustrated because everytime she got her thumb near her mouth it would go away when she moved her hand - so cute!!
