Topic: Travelling with cloth? Posted: 28 August 2008 at 10:23am |
Hi all, we're taking bubs away for a weekend for the first time, staying with friends. I'm wondering whether to use disposables all weekend, creating a small smelly mountain of rubbish, or whether we can manage our MCNs, and take a big plastic bag with us to lug them home for washing (it's possible we can do some washing there, but I doubt I'd get them dry in time). What do you ladies reckon? Any tips from people who've done it?

Hey weegee I have done it - I just collected them in a bag, rinsed where I could if needed and then washed when I got home. No worries. Getting rid of sposies can be just as much of a problem...

Thanks Bel! Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking - and with farm dogs around I suspect sposies in the rubbish might be a very bad idea I'm going to give it a go, but will take sposies with me in case it all turns to custard. I'll update in this thread next week how we went.
(But would still appreciate any other tips people have!)

I have done it a number of times when I go to Palmy from Waiouru. I have a wetbag and when they are used they go in there, once we get home (after 3-4 days) I just chuck them all in the wash and totally fine.
When we go down there we stay with the in laws and she has sposies there so if we need to we have them there to use.
If you can with the bag you put them in after being used, have some sort of scent in there so that you can't smell the nappy smell.

So do you think I should get myself a wet bag for future trips? Or will a plain old Glad Kitchen Tidy do the trick?

If you are going to be doing it often I would get one. They are cheap I got mine from here (I got the large size one) but there are other places you can get them from. The place I have put the link to is Stacey (kebakat) on here so you could PM her and ask her about them.
I love mine, it goes to daycare everyday and comes home at night and they love it how it is a drawstring and the little bit of mircofleece I put oil on it and they love how it smells.

If I'm only going for a couple of days I'll take sposies, but if I'm going for a week or more I'll take cloth. I only have enough nappies that I have to wash every 1-2 days so I would run pretty tight on getting them washed & dried again for a weekend. But if I'm staying somewhere where we can easily wash & dry laundry then I'll definitely take them.

I had friends stay for a weekend, and she used sposies and nappie bags, didn't even notice any extra rubbish or smell.
She uses sposies any way.

I would normally take sposies when going away as I like to have a holiday without having the extra worry of getting nappies washed & dried or having to cart dirty ones around with me! I am very fussy about washing them every day or two so wouldn't be able to stand taking them around with me longer than that!
In saying that though, if I am going to stay with family for a few weeks and know I will have easy access to a washing machine I will take cloth.

Hi ladies, thanks for all your help. Just to report back, we used cloth the whole time apart from the 4 hrs in the car, and after the explosion on the way home I'll use cloth in the car too next time! Had no problems, of course he pooed 3 times more than he usually does . And Becks, I'm gonna get me one of them wetbags - the plastic bag was defniitely very whiffy when I was pouring all the nappies into the washing machine last night!

Have a look at Stacey's site for them, I am sure she can help you.
