QuoteReplyTopic: Not wanting to leave the house! Posted: 03 July 2010 at 10:48am
I have a lovely friendly 2.5 year old. He has always been a happy, confident wee boy who everyone seems to really like.
In the last 4 weeks he has turned into the ultimate homebody. Its a mission to get him dressed in the mornings as he loves his PJ's and crys and screams about having to take them off.
He then crys in the car all the way to somewhere. Saying "I want my home", " I want to bed" etc. He crys and refuses to get out of the car when we get there and often crys for about 10 mins once we get in to the place.
After that he is happy as larry and loves being out. Plays, laughs, joins in and is extremely happy and sociable. Never bothers to check if I am still there or anything.
Any ideas on how to make the first part more enjoyable for all?
No idea? Have you kept him informed of where he's going?
Maybe say in 5 mins we are going to get dressed & get him to chose between 2 things to wear, ie give him the feeling of a little control over it. Then ask him which snack he wants to take?
I used to look after a little boy who would always get upset at leaving the house and having to go to kindy, the only real way around it was to not mention kindy at all until we were ready to go.
It seemed the build up to it was worse than actually going.
