I can go one better
These are the ones I made for DS first birthday. I just made plain vanilla cupcakes, you can do what ever recipe you want. I sliced the tops off to make them flat (made it easier to decorate). For th elmo ones I made red buttercream icing, and used a piping bag with a large star nozzle, and covered the top of the cupcake with "stars". It made it look kind of like fur. I did the same for cookie monster but with blue instead of red. For eyes, I used white choc melts, and stuck dark choc drops onto them with a tiny dot of icing. I used orange giant jelly beans (found them in party mix bag of lollies) for elmos nose, and made a mouth with melted choc in a syringe. For cookie monster I used the cookie bear mini choc chip bikkies, I cut them in half and pushed them into the icing.
Voila!!!
Heaps of fun, and I was so proud of them!!
Have fun, post some piccies!!!
edited for my dumb typo!!! SORRY

This might be a stupid question, but how do you get the icing to stick to the sides? ... Mine doesnt seem to stick (butter icing) it just kind of falls off (it doesnt run, it literally falls off)

lilfatty i had that same problem, i ended up thinning the icing a little bit which did the trick. I read somewhere that you can get some sort of primer type stuff to seal the cake so it doesn't crumble?? I will see if I can find it an let you know
