Topic: Showing already?? Posted: 22 October 2008 at 9:54pm |
I don't get it, how can I be showing already when my uterus is only the size of a grapefruit?? I wasn't slim when I got pregnant but by no means majorly overweight. My pouch is now much fuller and rounder. I don't think I can hide it for much longer!

12 weeks is pretty normal to start showing, its when most baby books say that the uterus starts to protrude the pelvis. I started showing at 10 weeks this time around, everything just gave way quicker...lol
Don't hide it, having a bump is the best part of being pregnant

i showed real quick too for a few reasons. i am not little and have always had a bit of a tum but i had really really strong core muscles. when i got pregnant they relaxed slightly due to hormones i think and i couldnt do any form or ab exercise even some of the random things you do at home that strengthen your core without you trying, so my stomach poped out quite a bit, and because my core was weakened my posture has dropped a little making me slouch slightly which pushes my little round gut out even more. even though the baby is litle, in my place i think it has just pushed my flab out a bit if that makes sense. the size of a grapefruit is small but it has to fit somewhere so it displaces whatever was there to start with. and cuppatea is right, 12 weeks is where the baby starts to move up as well, you can feel it above your pelvis probably by the end of the week, quite cool :)

If it makes you feel any better there are a few of us in June mums-to-be that are showing. And we're at 5/6/7 weeks. My clothes aren't fitting me very well anymore either.

Yep, Konagirl's right, I'm a June mum too and at 5 weeks I'm already showing. I started showing really early last time too and had people asking my friends if I was pregnant at 8 weeks (it was that obvious).
My husband asked my midwife about it last time and she said it's because I'm so petite (5ft, sz 8-10) there's nowhere else to grow except out. By the time I was 20 weeks we didn't believe I could get any bigger (ha ha, now I know better).
I love it actually. Pregnancy is beautiful and I get to look pregnant right from the start.

This photo is of me at 8 weeks. I was really confused as baby was so tiny and in the pelvis. My MW said it's the hormones shifting everything and making room for bubs when she pops up. I'm 5ft 2 and usually sit at a size 12.

Your lucky that you are showing already. I am 30 weeks, and only starting showing 3 weeks ago. Before that, I just had a flat tummy.
And it really does depend on a variety of factors, such as height, weight, body proportions, strength of core muscles, how your body reacts to pregnancy hormones.... I am a tall person (5'10"), and was quite slim when I got pregnant. I also exercise quite a bit, and have always had strong core muscles.
I just say embrace it!!!! At least you don't have to argue with people on the bus that you are in fact pregnant!

I showed by 7-8 weeks last time and had grown out of all my pants by 10wks. My doc said it was cos I'm so small in the pelvis / waist area, so as my uterus grew my intestines were pushed up, making me look preg. I'm only 5'4 (at a push!) and was 54kgs (size 8) and muscley / lean - so no where for bubba to go.
2nd time 'round I'm expecting it to be even quicker!!!
12 weeks is perfectly normal to show, as someone said your uterus is moving up at that point.

I didn't really start to show until 20wks and am still wearing my pre preg clothes and haven't bought any maternity clothing, whereas my sister started showing at about 10wks and is now 25wks and wearing maternity tops and pants so it really does vary

Just what I was going to say, people here at work still don't know that I'm pregnant!

It's the bloating and moving around of all your bits and pieces in there too, and your uterus may be tipping forwards more than a couple of weeks ago too.

Yeah thats what I was going to say, its mostly bloating etc. I didnt show properly until round 20 weeks.
But I did have a belly that I could notice at 12 weeks, which is normal.

I started showing right away, and had to tell work (they guessed that I was pregnant) I think at about 9/10 weeks.
I am now 26 weeks, and people are constantly coming up to me and asking if I'm due any day.
Be proud of ze bump!! I am very petite, so I think for me the bigger the bump, the worse the back problems, ect. u MAY have. Don't quote me of course
