Topic: Stress incontinence Posted: 22 August 2008 at 6:41pm |
I've been having some issues with this while dealing with a barking cough. But I can't shake the feeling that it might be also pregnancy-induced, given that I am, after all, up to baby #4. Will PC exercises really make a difference? And will things come better after I push baby out? - bearing in mind that I'm only week 9.

I've heard that it can be pg-related... so I'd say PC exercises will help, but they take a while to kick in. Good luck!

Do the PC exercises! From my own experience, after 4 babies things will never be the same! I know I cheated and only had 3 pregnancies, but the 15lb of gremlin put about as much strain on my bladder/pelvic floor as half a dozen pregnancies! I'm finding things are worse now than they were at full term with Chiara but I'm told that's common after childbirth so am frantically doing my pelvic floor exercises and hoping things improve! If not I'll have to see the urogyny again I just wish I had been more vigilant about doing them during my pregnancies...

PC exercises definately will help - cant stress it enough. I did suffer with a similar problem towards the end of my last pregnancy too - 12lbs of babies will do that. However, because baby is sitting on your bladder so early in your pg, it could be stress incontinence. Do the exercises to prevent it getting worse as your pg continues.

OK, was going to post my own thread about this but thought I should search first.
I have a cold with a horrible cough and have been finding a bit of leaking - I am finding it quite embarrassing - (even though no one knows) and am just a bit glad to hear others have the same problem.
So am sitting here doing pelvic floor exercises as I type

I'm in here too. I dont even know I am leaking half the time I had "issues" after Tom was born with a prolapsed uterus that came right with exercise but I can feel the weight of this baby pushing down on anything. Its worse after doing No 2s as well. I am also finding exercises hard work but my MW recommended doing them in bed....just have to wake myself early enough to do them as at the moment, I jump out of bed, go to the loo and deal to a demanding toddler. Lying in bed doing exercises doesnt quite fit.
I WILL DO THEM AFTER BABY IS BORN.....I PROMISE!!!
In the meantime, I find Tena long liners are great....absorb everything, arent thick and dont smell

Bel I found that once I got over my cold things weren't so bad. I still have to watch it when I sneeze and my legs are on any funny angle - but I've had to do that for a little while anyway. Otherwise I just need to watch the odd spontaneous laugh or cough when I am unprepared (bladder full or standing funny). Phew!

If you pop into somewhere like D!Vice (it's an adult's toy store with a non sleaze more feminine feel for those who haven't been there) and pick yourself up a set of "Smart Balls"
They are vaginal exercise balls and they are great for re-toning & strengthening your pelvic floor muscles.
The website says:
"Smartballs are inserted into the vagina and can be worn for several hours. Every move you make causes the metal balls inside the Smartballs interior to vibrate. This stimulates the vaginal muscles, massages and exercises the pelvic floor.
Smartballs provide a targeted workout of the pelvic floor which can lead to more fun with your partner. They support regeneration gymnastics and can prevent incontinence.
Smartballs are made of safe, non-hazardous materials which are also used in the manufacture of medical products. They are durable and easy to clean.
Smartballs are also extremely quiet. They are made using a unique manufacturing method that allows them to be the quietest love balls in the world. Smartballs are 1 1/4 inches in diameter and approximately 4 inches long."
