Does anyone have a long bleeding time (but not a diagnosed bleeding disorder) thats got a birth story for me!!?
I have had extending bleeding time tests in the past usually at around 15 minutes, i had one today and it was 10 minutes, apparently normal is 9 or under so i'm not sure if they will consider this to be too long. Appparently if your bleeding time is extended you can't have an epidural so i'm just wanting to hear from anyone who has been in this situation! I guess I just have to wait until I get a call from the ob or anaethatist to see what they will do.

Hey

Have you seen anyone about getting diagnosed?  I have von willebrands disease which can be diagnosed with a simple blood test.

I saw a haemotologist, aneasthetist and obstetrician in the weeks before I went into labour and it was decided

1) I had to birth in a hospital

2) I had to have a luer inserted as soon as I arrived in hospital and my blood type located so that if I needed a transfusion there was no mucking around trying to find a vein and the right blood.

3) If I needed a c-section they'd be best to do it under general and they would need to administer DDAVP (which clots the blood)

I'll have to check my birth notes to see what they said about the epidural, I didn't want one so it didn't matter, but I think that I was told it would be ok but the risk of paralysis was higher.  I'm pretty sure my sister (who also has VWB) had epidurals with her babies.

Everything went smoothly.  I had a great labour without any excessive bleeding.  I had to go back to hospital after a couple of weeks because my lochia was extremely heavy but otherwise I had a textbook pregnancy and birth.

Good luck.  I hope everything goes well for you.

I have been tested for VWB but was negative, my aunty is the same, she has a long bleeding time but its not VWB and my grandfather was the same. Its just annoying!!
My bleeding time today was 10 mins, in the past its been 15 and more so it has improved in pregnancy and they say under 9 minutes is normal so i guess i'm borderline now so I think they might treat me as normal but i don't know! I see my ob again in two weeks to discuss again and he said if my bleeding test from today was abnormal an aneasthetist would be in touch
