Topic: Weird New Feelings..... Posted: 13 September 2008 at 8:56am |
This might sound odd but i've been getting this scary feeling lately. First baby here so some of you ladies might have a giggle at me LOL!
We had the scan and found out it's a healthy little girl. Something kicked in after that and i've found myself feeling what can only be described as Fiercely protective of her. I knew the whole maternal think would kick in at some stage but it seems so intense and it's taken me by surprise. Again, some may giggle :) but I really had no idea it was going to feel like this.
Has anyone else been taken back a bit by the whole "I'm a Mum" thing?? Or am I just weird lol

Yep - I had that feeling! After a couple of miscarriages I was ready to fight, fight, fight for this one.
Even DH is super protective of my bump, and that's what took me by surprise!

yes super super protective! had this one horrible, hirroble night when the little girls next door were in trouble (they've got a nasty big brother). Usually Id go over there and get them, but I was 20 weeks pregnant and even though I was over 12 weeks I was nervous id lose baby again. their brother had threatened to kick baby outa me (just words but its still scary) so I had to sit there waiting for the cops to come...it was awful but I was so scared for my lil baby that I didn't wanna put myself in danger.
Ok so that's extreme but it even lil things too, like walking in crowds and covering the bump (incase someone pushes me into something lol). Its a very strong feeling but I like it :-) makes me feel 'really' pregnant

I think it was after the 18 week scan that I really started to realise it was a human baby in there! Up till then it was still a bit surreal (even though we'd had a 6 and 12 week scan). I don't know if I ever felt a huge maternal instinct while it was still in utero, but it did all seem more real. It was about that time that I stopped referring to the baby as the 'parasite'

Yep I so remember those feelings. When I was just early on in the pregnancy, an idiot driver swerved past me. I was soooo mad at him, was ranting and raving even though it was only me in the car lol. I remember saying "don't you dare hurt my baby" lol cos idiot drivers like that cause accidents... I wasn't worried about me, just my baby.
And then when I got bigger, it was sooo hard being on duty in the playground... balls flying everywhere, I was constantly on the alert looking out for any stray balls and walking with my arms guarding my stomach. It was awful, I was so scared my belly was gonna get hit.

Oh Yah...its very normal. I was very protective and paranoid while pregnant with DD....I would put my hand across my tummy when I passed a thing or some one as if not to bump into it ....I do the same with this one!
And I agree with LU...It gets worse with them being here. I was like a lioness with DD I wouldnt let any one hold her long enough....I was always with her....Crazy!!
I am also like MrsHouse - I always hold on to my tummy while playing with DD so that she doesnt accidently hit me...tho she is really really good and is aware of baby!
But yah...its a MUM thing!!

I'm getting very impatient. I want her NOW. I just went and bought my first pink clothes and now im frustrated because I want something IN the clothes LOL.
The books say she can hear now. At least it gives her a chance to get used to the sound of dogs barking
