Topic: another scan question Posted: 04 September 2008 at 7:24pm |
i have been getting scans done every few weeks while TTC and these continue now im pg every month under 6/7 months. the one i had done a few days ago was at 5w4d i think and he could only see a dot. it was a tummy scan noe an up the girly bits scan. i have read in heaps of places the baby should be 3 - 5mm and may even have a heart beat but i dont know which kind of scan. he said he could see a dot and was about 1mm but i thought this would be too small. did anyone else have early tummy scans and what could be seen?

At 6wks 3days I had a dating scan done. All we could see was a small dot and a very strong heartbeat.
I think the heartbeat is more likely to be seen after 6 weeks? Someone correct me if I am wrong please?

Yeah the heartbeat usually shows at 6 weeks, you can sometimes see it before, but not usually. So it's not unusual that they couldn't see a heartbeat at 5w4d

We had a scan at six weeks and there were two sacs - one with a heartbeat and one without. That was fine. Then we had a scan at 8 weeks and there were two sacs and two heartbeats. They are measuring about three days different so those three days for us made a huge difference and it is probably the same for you.

I had a scan at 5 weeks 5 days, it was a few mm I think, but no heartbeat. Luckily, I had no idea that I might be able to see a heartbeat at that point, so didn't worry about the lack of it. Daniel's here now and doing fine!

I had a normal tummy scan and they saw a heartbeat at 6+ week. that why they usually say do the dating scan at or arounf 7 weeks, atleast with both my pregnancy the doc told me the same thing.

My doc suggested waiting till 7 weeks for my early scan so that the heartbeat would definitely be there. Even at 6 weeks some don't have heartbeats yet but are perfectly fine. Also externally this baby measured 7weeks and then internally he measured 7 weeks 2 days so quite a difference really. If you had had an internal one perhaps the dot would have measure 3mm?

I had an external scan at 7 weeks, bubs measured about 6 weeks 3 days, and the heartbeat was really strong. I remember being so amazed at being able to see my little one's heart thumping away on the screen that I asked the sonographer if it was possible to see a foetal heartbeat any earlier. He said it was sometimes possible from around 5 weeks if scan done internally.

I had a transvaginal scan at six weeks 4 days and they couldn't see the heartbeat (or much else for that matter) but it was there ten days later.

I had a normal scan at 6.5 weeks and they could make out the heart beat - but said that I was lucky to see the heartbeat - and it was more reliable after 7 weeks.
Try to relax (easier said than done I know) - but it all sounds ok.
