Topic: Flexible hours preschool Posted: 28 June 2010 at 11:14am |
I work shift work and am wondering if anyone knows of any good preschools that have more flexible hours, and not set days.
I am in Christchurch

Nope!
A friend is a pilot so works shift work and wanted the same thing. She is now with a DC where she pays for full time car 7.30-5.30 but can drop off and pick up anytime within that and she doesn't have to let them know - they just expect her little boy to be there at some point. She pays $210 a week.
Let me know if you want the name. Where abouts are you in ChCh?

We pay full time care and just take them in when we want ..
DCs have to account for each child in their teacher/child ratios so finding one that will let you bring them in some days and not others at short notice will be a hard task.

Same here, we pay for fulltime to have the flexibility.
Maybe you could try and find a home carer that is flexible??
I aksed at Porse but they said no when I was looking but maybe an independent person might be.

My MIL works for Kidstart I think it is, or something like that, as a home-based carer. She has one boy whose parents are both shift workers (doctors) and they just have to let her know their schedule in advance (it's usually 6 weeks so gives her enough notice). She doesn't get paid for the hours he's not there.
So in-home care would probably be your only option unless you enrol full time in DC, which is what we had to do even though I do casual relieving.

Amelia goes to Elim early childcare in chch , its run by the church so is a bit cheaper ( full price is $5 an hr ) hours are 8am-5pm ( pretty standard) they charge by the hour too , they have always been pretty flexible with me , i only pay for the hours shes there , if shes sick i dont pay . im really happy with it . Its a small centre in the city centre , alot of people dont know about it as its well hidden , but it has a good outside play area and lovely staff /
