gee porse are expensive are these people qualifed ealry childhood people ?????
do they have first aid ceft's
gee $12 an hour that's crazy!!!!!
Yeh, the more expensive they are the more experience & qualifications they usually have. In saying that from my understanding is that it's the carer who decides on their pay. They said many $6/hr people have heaps of qualifications & experience too so it's just luck of the draw in some ways.
I am a PORSE educator who is trained and I charge 7.50 an hour. To be honest I see it as cheap. Often I have only my son and another child with me which mean that each child gets alot of individual care.
As a PORSE educator you don't get paid sick leave or holiday pay or anything so I think that as parents its a good deal.
For those of you who have cleaners come into your house how much do you pay them an hour?? I would pay a lot more for my childs care.
Sorry if that sounds nasty I don't mean it to in any way.
Our carer is in the higher pay rate but she is a qualified nanny with years of experience and my son absolutely loves being in her care so the money is totally justified for us. And I find her a great resource for a lot of my parenting questions as well, and I know that we are on the same page when it comes to Blake's care so I have total peace of mind
First: I'm SO with you on your comment. It's such an important job & uses up so much energy that a measly $6/hr doesn't give it enough praise. It's hard enough mustering up enough energy for your own children let alone someone elses. I'm surprised it's legal to charge such a low amount esp. when looking at Hamilton at $4.50.
In saying that to get childcare for 2 under 2yrs old while working is expensive so the cost comes into it for me as I wouldn't be able to get back into work if it was too much higher.
I do realise it is a big chunk for families to pay and I totally understand about going back to work and affording childcare as I didn't go back to work because my income wouldn't have covered my childcare. I am so glad I decided to go with PORSe as I love looking after the extra kids and it works well for my family.
It is a tough situation that is for sure.
first - when I found out how little I would be paying for Natalie's care ($6ph), I was almost horrified that it was so low! However her carer looks after another couple of children also, so in the end she's being paid a more reasonable hourly rate! My carer isn't qualified 'on paper' but I know she is doing an excellent job, and my daughter loves the time she spends there. And at the end of the day happy baby = happy mummy.
It is such a hard job, and I know I couldn't do what our carer (and you other hard-working Mummies) do.
