Hi, just wondering if anyone has taken a baby to Tonga before? If there is anything you would recommend I take? I breastfeed him but trying to ween him and he's on solids too. We are staying up north at Heilala Holiday Lodge, so apparently not family friendly (but we have been given the ok to go). Any advice will be appreciated, thank you.
I haven't been to Tonga but I took my 8 month old to Rarotonga last year. Not sure if I will be any help or not but I can try! I had already weaned him so we were formula all the way - I boiled the water of course - I assume you have a kitchen in your unit? They are priceless! My boy was crawling and learned to pull himself up on things while we were there so I had to take some time to do a quick baby proofing check on arrival. Most babies get a fever when changing climates so don't panic if he does but take a thermometer and pamol in case. I was a bit paranoid and took burn creams, conjunctavitis liquid and a bunch of other unnecessary things cause I didn't know what I could get if I needed it. I only needed the pamol/thermometer and his fevel came down overnight. There will be endless fruit for him which I'm sure he will love but I would take plenty of canned baby food to be sure. You don't want to have to cook too much while on holiday :) I don't know what the shops in Tonga are like but I could have gotten all mine in Raro but for a huge price - I have heard Tongan food is expensive so BYO :) Oh and we took a baby back pack as it was so much easier to walk with him on rough roads/beaches etc. The stroller only got used in the airport! Any more Q's just ask :)
Actually I just remembered we made his bottles up with boiled bottled water - the bottled stuff not bought in proper shops can often just be tap water put into bottles and re capped so be careful! we had one supermarket in Raro - not sure if Tonga does or not!
