Topic: Opinions on B6 Vitamin Posted: 28 September 2009 at 11:32am |
Hi girls I've been doing a bit of googling on B6 and need some opinions.
Some of you may know I've had 2 m/c this year and have gone to a specialist to do tests etc, everything has come back normal. I have a followup with the specialist middle of Oct to see what I can do to within my power to not m/c etc (not that theres much you can do). I've been wondering about upping my dose of B6. I'm taking elevit which has 2.6mg of B6 and from what I've read should be around 100mg. I wouldnt be taking it to lenghten my lueteal phase as that is normal. I'm wanting to try again next month (argggg anxiety again - hoping its third time lucky). Does anyone have any opinions, or do you think I should wait until I see the specialist??
Thanks guys

Im not sure about what role B6 would play in reducing the risk of MC but have you thought about taking low dose asprin? I have heard that it can help in cases of recurrent MCs? GL hun! MCs suck. My friend had 2 MC and went on to have a healthy wee boy. She didnt do anything differently, so I know it can happen I wish you lots and lots of sticky dust anyway

Hi Emmi, congrats hun, so happy for you, stick bubba stick!! I don't think B6 would do anything to prevent a m/c, I've just read that it boosts conception and can reduce early loss. Apparently there was a study done. It is pretty common to have m/c's (though of course doesnt make it any easier to handle as we know). The specialist had mentioned previously that if all the tests came back normal she would put me on baby aspirin. Rather than my body lacking something maybe it is just a case of these bubba's never formed properly for whatever reason. Maybe it is just a case of wait and see. I'm just impatient and wanted to start something before I next O. Still any further opinions more than welcome.

Hi asicsgal...Im sure no expert but since B6 is a vitamin and if you take more than you need you just pee it away, surely there's no harm in trying it anyway?
FX that your ticker is right and 3rd time is a charm. GL chick

Yeah i fully understand the fact that you will try everything, I am the same, you should have seen the list of pills I was taking while TTC! Now I am just on FA, baby asprin (not through the drs),selenium and a multi vit.
I agree with tania in that so long as any excess will get peed out then there is no harm, I was taking 100mg while TTC (my LP was fine too). I too liked the thought that if I did everything I could to not lose it then at least I wont be thinking what if. Do you know if your progesterone is ok??

Hiya asics My specialist put me on baby aspirin, and 5mg folic acid for my recurrent m/c, and as soon as I got a BFP my progesterone was checked as well as my HCG levels - that's when they found out my progesterone was low. It would explain why in the usual tests my progesterone was so low they thought I wasn't ovulating - they just said it was normal pre-ovulation levels (although I knew I had ovulated).
Good luck Are you seeing Natalia?

Hi Asic I think that you can get your B levels tested with a blood test which can tell if you are deficient...
These are the links I had under my favourites re B6
B6
and here
Reason to take B6 to prevent mc
and I have read that Selenium helps to prevent mc because it helps with genetic formation of embryo...
Selenium
and here
I also think that Zinc plays a big role in fertility...
Zinc
a lot of reading to do tonight

Thanks girls for your input. Shezzey you really are full of so much info, it's great.
Gorgeous names for the girls Kate sooooo beautiful!! According to the Day 21 bloods prostegen is normal but I will clarify with the specialist to see if its something I can check when I get my next BFP. I don't know whether you can have normal prostegen in day 21 bloods but be low when you get BFP! Soooo many questions, I should really start to make a note of some of them to ask specialist.
Right now off to look at Sheezey's links

Hi asics, I would not up your b6 if you are taking elevit as that should have the amount you need.
Check out the health shop, I am looking at getting Femzone. Shezzey have you heard of it?

Hey I didn't take Elevit but after mc #7 I started taking 80-100mg of B6 coz I was so tired all the time (didn't know at the time it could help with pregnancy) and within 4 months we had BFP and I'm halfway now so I don't know if the B6 helped but it can't hurt!! I was also taking EPO and Fish Oil to support my ADs but wasn't taking anything else so yeah it might have made the difference.

Hey hun, wow 27 weeks that is very cool. I am debating about whether to join the threads again but don't want to get obsessive about it all again.
