Anyone else on Chinese herbs or been on Chinese herbs to help them conceive? If so, any side effects you've noticed?

Hi Treen,
No side effects really, apart from the god awful smell (and god awful taste!!) in my kitchen after I've cooked my potion!!

Lol - only things I noticed was that I stink (quite noticeably) when I sweat at the gym, also I think it might have affected the amount of CM?

I'm not sure if it's the herbs or not but this last week or so I've been highly emotional, had boundless energy and over the last 3 days, an increase of CM. I'm used to getting zip, pretty much.

My herbalist has asked me to have a break from TTC this month so the herbs can have a good go at flushing out my system. My temps are looking really good – the best they've ever been – I'm starting to worry that the month I've been asked to skip TTC, could be the month my body actually releases a healthy egg. What if that doesn't happen again for a while (or ever)?

What would you girls do? Could TTC this month be such a bad idea? Can herbs really do any damage? Or is this whole "flushing out system" just a nice thing to do if possible?

I have been taking herbs for about 6 months and one of the first most noticeable side-effect was my skin clearing up - awesome!! I didn't really notice many other physical effects but my charts did improve reasonably quickly and continued to do so.

I think they like you to not TTC for the first bit so if you do conceive your body is more healthy and likely to keep it and not miscarry (though obviously miscarriages can be for other reasons that herbs won't be able to help). I never put off trying - but it took us awhile to conceive anyway. The only thing would be if they put something in the potion that isn't good if you're pregnant.

Hiyas, I'm taking herbs as well, am up to week 3 now.
My naturopath asked us to not try in the first month because some of the herbs are dangerous during pregnancy.
Also some of the herbs are for detoxing, and i had extreme exhaustion, pimples and headaches for the first 9 days which must have been the detoxing.
The toxins which come out of your body are also bad for the baby if you conceive.

I was naughty last week and decided we would try this month as well, but I got talked back into taking them by a different naturopath. She said its important to do the whole month of detox

I've only got to take the "flushing out system" herbs for my follicular phase, so I might just keep TTC as time is of the essence and it doesn't sound like it can be that dangerous, surely?

I have been on the herbs for 4 months now. I have noticed a difference in my af(red and lots of it) and my charts (when I did) did improve too. For the first bit I was really tired and felt awful but now I have more energy and generally happy. My mind has also cleared up loads and emotions are stable rather than the emotional rollercoaster I was on before. I was told that it takes a while for the herbs to work, up to 9 months but most result happen in 3 to 6 months.

My herbalist said that I had blood deficientcy and blocked chi. My blood issue seems to be under control now and it is just the chi issue that we are working on now, but it is getting much better. She never told us not to try but I second Chelle in the bit about m/c. It is up to you but I would try.

I have my specialist appointment next week and if we are both clear of any real issue I will continue to take the herbs. I do know what you mean about the smell and cooking them up, it is such a pain

Thanks for that Mummymegs, I'm hoping it will have the same effect on my AF.

Mmm, just when I say my temps are awesome, they've started going all crazy on me again. Maybe I should miss this month out after all.

How much do you all pay for your herbs and consultations? I'm starting to stress about the financial side of all this alternative medicine. At the moment, it's costing me $75 a week for the acupuncture and the herbs for the follicular phase were $47 but either she hasn't given me enough or I've been taking too big a dose as I'm all out with 7 days till OV.

I'm wondering if it's possible to flag the acupuncture and just stick with the herbs. Or do they go hand in hand?

I paid $250 for my first naturopath appointment (ouch).
That included a 45 minute consultation, a months worth of tincture ($110), and a months worth of natal-aid vitamins ($45)

My acupuncturist is $65/session but I haven't started seeing him yet

Mine said that the herbs are much better than acupuncture, which is why I only go for acupuncture now and then(6DPO - for implantation). Yeah, the cost does add up, mine sometimes comes to around $50 and other times around $100. I don't take it every week but just certain times of the month but each time I go back it is different. At the moment I am on these soft round ball things.

Yep, af is much better and my cycles have been 28 days exactly for the last 2 cycles, before they were between 30 and 32.

Good luck.

ooo thanks mummymegs!
I have had one appointment with Sanctuary Health so far, I was hoping ACC might cover acupuncture for a shoulder injury I have, and they could just throw a few more needles in at the same time!
I'm seeing Rachael Symonds as my naturopath.

The place you go to looks alot cheaper though, and close to my work as well.

We have been trying since January, however I came off the Depo injection last year so we're not trying too seriously just yet, I figure there's no point stressing over something that might not happen, but I'll do everything I can to speed the process up.

How long have you guys been trying?

I'm just taking a tincture at the moment. It's made up of Ladies mantle, Shatavari, Chamomile, Dandelion root, Wild yam, Squaw vine, Rodiola, Blue cohosh and Agnus Castus.

I'm not sure how the Chinese herbs would go with the herbs I'm taking?
