Topic: Coming off bcp Posted: 12 December 2008 at 6:34pm |
I am about to start my last month of bcp and have some questions.
Is day 1 of my cycle the day following the last hormone pill?
or when AF starts.
Also is first AF following finish of bcp or the next one?
How long after stopping bcp would I ovulate?
Is it possible to conceive straight away without having had AF?
TIA

Welcome to ohbaby!
Is day 1 of my cycle the day following the last hormone pill?or when AF starts.
The first day of any cycle is the first day of bleeding, spotting is not considered the start of AF
Also is first AF following finish of bcp or the next one?End of BCP is when you finish taking it
How long after stopping bcp would I ovulate?
There is no true answer to this. The average cycle is 28 days and most women ovulate 14 days before AF. That said normal cycles can vary from 23 plus days, mine were about 35 days and I ovulated 12 days before AF.
Is it possible to conceive straight away without having had AF?Yes, some people concieve from just missing a pill or 2 or being on antibiotics! That said, some women can take a while to kick into a normal cycle. I didnt ovulate the first 6 cycles off BCP.
Hope this helps and good luck on your TTC journey, hope its short and sweet.

1st day is normally the first day of AF so I would go by that if you are intending to chart.
I think they recommend waiting to have one natural period, so that would be the next one, not the one when you first stop, but that is more just for dating reasons as the pill gives you a 28 day cycle but naturally you might be say 34 days which would make a difference when using your lmp to work out the due date.
How long after you will ovulate, this should happen mid cycle so if you have a 28 day cycle it would happen 14 days in, however when you come off the pill sometimes it can take a while before you start ovulating again (although you will have periods) or you body can go mad the first month and pump out extra eggs. There is a higher instance of twin pregnancy if pregnant from first cycle after coming of BCP.
You will have the AF that would normally occurs when you have the sugar pills when you stop the pill but you can get pregnant before the first natural AF occurs.
(sorry about using the word natural like your other periods are unnatural but I couldn't think of a better word to explain it.)

I'm not sure of the answers to some of the above questions but it is definitely possible to get preg straight after stopping taking the BCP.
I stopped taking mine just before the sugar pills and had AF straight away (which is the norm so i'm told) we weren't using protection but not actively trying either. I was waiting and waiting for my next "natural" AF to arrive and it never did, turns out i ovulated roughly 2-3 weeks after stopping the pill and I'm now almost in my 3rd trimester.
Good luck with your TTC journey!

I am new to all of this and I am confused.
I have been on BC for a long time and decided to stop in December. I would expect a bleed to appear after I stop but I only had spotting for a day. Since then I have had some spotting when my AF should have arrived but it was only spotting. So I haven't had any 'normal' bleeds since end of Nov when I was still on bc. We have had unprotected sex regularly and I have taken 2 tests and they came up negative.
Any ideas?

Fleur what Mel said re all your questions.
Yo sometimes getting AF after taking BCP can take a while to come back. My first cycle once I finished BCP was only 23 days but some people can be 40+ days.

I've been lucky so far and got normal AF straight away, it was longer and heavier than a pill break. Another week and I should get AF and be on to my second cycle.
I had a regular cycle before going on the pill and nothings changed.
