My DH and I have been TTC just on 11 months now. I have a child (9 years old) from a past relationship, so had no reason to be alarmed when we first begain trying.
I have a history of Polycyctic Ovaries, but have a number of friends with the condition who have gone on to have more than one baby. I have been with Fertility Specialists for the last couple of months and was put on the standard clomiphene 50mg. The side effects they mention in a small chapter of info they give you, I feel should be in bold, as it turned me into a emotional reck, and left me feeling quite depressed and stressed out about the whole thing.
I am looking at trying alternative methods instead of drugs, but really don't know anyone that has had postive results eg: acupuncture.
I would appreciate and words of advice/encouragement, other peoples experiences on Clomiphene and rections...
Kay

Hi Kay. Welcome to OB.

I haven't had first-hand experience with clomid but there are definitely heaps of helpful and supportive people on here for every apect of the parenting journey starting with TTC.

There's a thread on clomid which one of the lovely ladies in the infertility forum started, check it out. Here's the link clomid pill poppers

All these best with TTC. *Baby dust being sprinkled your way*

Hi KPete

Poor you! You must be one of the unlucky ones - i've had 4 rounds of clomiphene, and apart from possibly being a bit emotional the first time (which could have just been stress), have had no side effects.

I've had acupuncture which has made a big improvement to my PMT. Maybe acupuncture could help with your side effects too?

Hi Catie

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I think some of the side effects where a result of the stress. Unfortunatley I was put on two doses in one cycle! 25mg to start off with then increased to 50mg after bloods showed the lower dose did nothing.
After reading some of the other lucky ladies on OB that have been fortunate to get pregnant, I am not sure whether to carry on with some more cycles of Clomiphene or have a break for a cycle or two?

Are you with a specialist? Are you continuing on Clomiphene?

I have made an appointment to have acupuncture next week, here's hoping with helps!

I was having a very strange cycle this month (eg a 3 week period) and hadn't ovulated since I miscarried in March... I got fed up with bleeding for 3 weeks (well i was fed up long before that lol) so I went to a homeopathic store and got some Vitex! And what do you know, the day I started it was the last day of the bleeing, I ovulated one week later and am now 7 days past ovulation! Can't say if it helped me conceive or not because it's still another week before I can do a preg test, but it definitely worked for me straightening out my cycle! I just take one tablet in the morning

Good luck!

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage :(

I have wondered about homeopathic supplements?! That vitex sounds great, I have long cycles too....up to day 48 of a 50? day cycle (depends on what my body decides to do lol).

Can you recommend a particular homeopathic store?

Hi KPete
I've been having IUI - 3 rounds so far and am hoping that after nearly 3 yrs ttc, we've finally done it - will find out on Friday
If not, we've agreed to have one more round, then give up as at that point if it's going to work chances are it will have. I found Vitex helped a little bit, but nowhere near as much as acupuncture. I went to Nicky Baillie, who is both a naturopath and a GP, about two years ago, she put me and DH on herbs and supplements. She's based at the herbal centre on Ponsonby road. but, for me, acupuncture seems more effective. I go to the centre for chinese med in Grey Lynn. whre are you going? it all gets pretty expnsive, but hopefully worth it in the end.
