Topic: Can fat men make babies? Posted: 21 May 2008 at 4:06pm |
And I mean the term "fat" in a very lovable and non-judging way!
My partner is quite a large man (some would say obese) and we've been trying to conceive for about 6 months now.
A friend of mine just commented how it would be very hard for us to conceive while he's so large!
Is that true? Does weight affect his little swimmers that much that they'll be useless?

DH is also not a small man but we didn't have any problems. If you are worried, perhaps google it?

i was 106 when i got preg..and 100 the first time.. it can sometimes be a factor but i think the media makes it out to be more of an issue than it is. I know 7 women 100+ who got preg....two with PCOS.. at least in the people i know..of the ones having problems some are bigger some are smaller..

thanks foxxy_one
my friend who told me that size is a problem is about 50 kilos and has 5 kids i'm guessing she's just one of those ladies that gets pregnant easily and since we've been trying for a little while now, she's blaming our size and making me paranoid!?
guess we'll find out !

I think its more lifestyle than actual weight. Like if his diet isnt balanced, and he is a smoker or drinker etc these things can effect fertility.

There are plenty of slim women that don't get preggy easily either.
If you feel like you want to lose weight then do it and encourage DH to join you but only do it if and because you want to not because some stick of a girl tells you you should. *meant in the nicest possible way*

I don't think it's that closely related. My DF is a stick (I'd estimate around 60-65kgs at 6") He's probably underweight for his height, but that's just the way his body works, and I'm in the healthy range, but sort of have to watch it 70-75kg at 5"8, and we've been trying for 6 months now, we're both young too, so it's all twaddle if you ask me!

My fat man has made nine babies, altho I'm sure he wasn't always as fat as he is now. We did have some TTC issues with the gremlins but I'm reasonably sure that was me not him.
He's also a truck driver which means his boy bits get nice and cooked, a big TTC no-no, plus he was a smoker when eight out of nine were conceived which again isn't in his favour, he just seems to be super fertile.

he's not a smoker, only a social drinker and eats moderately well so we should be fine

My DH is considered overweight but he is very tall (6ft 4) and built like a brick sh*t house! (shoulders very wide!) and weighs 98kgs and i am ...well....fat! lol...and we havnt had any problems (other than depo problems!) we have gotten pregnant 4 times now so i definately dont think its a size thing!
good luck with the TTC
