Topic: A Breastfeeding question Posted: 11 February 2012 at 12:42pm |
For those who have/are breastfeeding and haven't/didn't get your period back for ages, did you take periodic pregnancy tests just to check that you weren't pregnant?
Even with contraception I know its not 100% so I'm wondering if I'm just paranoid.

I breastfeed DD1 until 10 months, then expressed for another two months and never had AF return during that time (infact I got UTD with DD2 before having a real period, only a pathetic amount of spotting when I stopped my pill).
I did take a pregnancy test (which was negative) once while I was still feeding DD1 but only because I wasn't feeling too great and it reminded me of morning sickness (an extra day proved that it was actually salmonella poisoning).
What else are you using for contraceptives? Is there anything that makes you think you could be UTD??
One way to know for sure

No.
AF returned at 11 months with DS2 and the first pregnancy test I took after that was when he was about 16 months old. I took it because even though AF goes AWOL when on the mini-pill (started it at 12 months) it was away longer than it had been when I had been on it previously. It was negative...just like the other THREE tests I took over the course of the next couple of months, and the blood test the Dr did; it was missing for 5 months that time.

I've got the normal IUD, and the only reason is I keep feeling like I should be getting my period (getting cramps) but nothing but a tiny bit of blood the other week.
I'm just wondering if I'm being paranoid lol

Haha, yep, I became a bit of a serial POAS'er for a while. Got my period back at about 10months and then didn't get another one until DS was 12months. I often got all the symptoms of an impending AF, but nada
