Topic: Blocked drain. RANT Posted: 25 April 2010 at 2:22pm |
Sorry, this is going to be a rant, but I am SICK of the drain outside my front door overflowing with excrement, toilet paper, washing machine water etc. It has been happening since EASTER, and we've had plumbers, insurance men, other plumbers, the landlord, coming and going looking at it, writing things down, taking photos, talking about it, blah blah blah.
It's not THEIR drain that is overflowing with sh*t. I have two small children and it is unhygienic, unsafe and disgusting. People who come to my front door see bits of floating stuff everywhere and it's me who has to get out there with buckets of soapy water and try to get it out of sight and away from where people walk.
What the hell do I do?
I've rung the council, they said it has nothing to do with them and I need to get onto my landlord. I've rung the landlord and he said it's up to the insurance company now to okay the work (There is a cracked pipe under the carport and they need to dig it up and repair it). I've spoken to the insurance people who reckon it's up to the plumber to come around and temporarily sort it out until the insurance claim is accepted. And the plumber said he can't do anything until the insurance is sorted.
I understand that protocol must be followed and insurance must be sorted in order for the work to be done, but this has been weeks now and I'm sick of the sh*t. I feel like moving, I feel like not paying rent, I feel like asking for them to put us up in a bloody motel until it's fixed but I just want it to be sorted.
What should I do?!
TIA, and also thanks for reading my rant.

I'd ask the CAB for some advice on what your rights are.
Cause thats nasty and sewerage type waste can cause all sorts of nasty bugs.

hugs Renee... hope something happens soon for you. I ditto going to CAB. Must be something that can get you either out of house or something done temporarily so you don't have to put up with the filth.

TT would be the best place to ring but I think you can write the landlord a 10 day letter to have it fixed or find you alternative housing until it is.

Yes I would expect that with an issue like that the LL has to provide alternative housing until it is fixed. Check with the tenancy tribunal first thing tomorrow.
If you have notified the LL previously in writing you may even be able to backdate the issue rather than taking it from tomorrow.

Ring Tenancy Services, but they will probably say the same thing - give the landlord a 10 day notice to rectify, because it is unhygienic and unsafe.

Yup everyone is right - ring the TT first thing tomorrow. Its sounds awful, so hopefully with a rev up from TT your LL will get it sorted.
