Please help me think of an original idea for my best friend's birthday.

We ALWAYS end up going to Lone Star so was thinking as it's her 30th we could do something a tad different. She lives in south Auckland so somewhere close to there. My folks are going to having my kids and her's are going to stay with hers. The men folk will be coming also :)

I have no idea what kind of stuff you/she is into or whether this is even available in your area BUT ....

There are cooking courses you can do here (one at Raffles Hotel!) where you do the cooking course during the day/afternoon then your partners (or whoever) come to eat the dinner you cooked

I really really want to do this once I've had this baby.

They do something like that at the Auckland Fish Market ..

My friend is having a grown up afternoon tea (probably something like high tea) and we are all getting dressed up to the nines in dresses, hats, gloves, pearls .. I think its going to be awesome fun!

If she is sporty like me .. then at woodhill they have a rope course .. thats always a great thing to do with a group, you can then have a bbq lunch/dinner (although its far away from south auckland!)

You could hire a yacht and cruise the harbour and have dinner.

Hot Air Balooning followed by champagne breakfast (they only do morning flights)

You could all go away for the night .. isnt there some kind of golf range out South .. Formosa maybe? .. or go further afield to Rotorua or something like that.
Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months)

I did it .. 41 kgs gone! From flab to fab in under a year LFs weight blog

I love the yacht idea! Although I think her DH gets motion sickness :( Great idea though. Wish we could go away but with the girls so dependent on me still it's not possible.

I really like the cooking idea, I might have to do some calling around.

Go to the Secret Thai Garden, it is SO nice its the sister venue of The Secret Garden in town. Nice meals that are big, and filling and good flavours, really reasonably priced. DP and I went a few years ago and got an entree to share and a main each and couldn't finish it. They do a set menu for $35 including a Thai soup. Drinks are RTD's etc but cheap at about $6 from memory.

Oh and you sit outside under canopies in amongst the trees and stuff, and the furniture is imported from Thai

Ditto this - was going to suggest going here too. My friend had her engagement party there and it was really pretty.

hmm, I would check the health rating on that one before eating there, last time hubby went with work they left before even going in the door because it was one number above being closed for being unsanitary

It's in Otahuhu near a liquor shop from memory. It's kinda weird to begin with because you walk past what looks like a house down a corridor that is lit red and has these dragons and then you go out the back. A husband and wife team run it. She does the serving he is just there to chat with the customers lol.

I think his name is Dobby, don't know why I think that.

DP was saying last night that it's a good place to go with a group of people and you can share meals and have a chat and sit under the trees
