Topic: eating Posted: 21 January 2008 at 3:19pm |
I'm three months preg and I seem to be going through a phase of just not being hungry.
This is normal for me and it seems to work out in the end but I'm think its not really good for the baby, right?
Should I be forcing myself to eat or is it okay to continue eating only when hungry?

I really struggled with food from about week 7 to week 14.
I ate when I could, and I made sure it was balanced. I'd eat a piece of fruit, some cheese and a slice of wholegrain bread. It was hard to get down, but it wasn't so much food that I felt ill.
Everyone's different though.
Do you like protein drinks? Like Complan?
Remember, baby takes everything it needs, leaving you squat, so don't panic too much about baby. Just eating little and often was my rule of thumb. You need to look after you, too

I think it depends on how much you are eating when you are hungry and what type of food you are eating.
I would recommend eating small amounts and often like hooper. Even if it is just a piece of toast or a crackre or some fruit. Just something to keep you and your body going without bubs taking ALL you goodness (and you not putting it back in!)

I know this feeling! The books say you have to eat lots, and eat about 25% more calories than normal - at 12 weeks, I wasn't eating even my normal. I reckon eat what you can when you can and try and keep it balanced (I only enjoyed salty foods ) but you can only do your best! Complan is good - just check the nutritional values on the side - you don't really want stuff with added Vitamin A. Also, have a chat to your LMC and see if they have any recommendations.

I hear you. Pretty much the whole way through I've not felt much like eating - but I just made myself eat a little and often (and it was easier if I had something I really liked).

Thanks everyone. A little and often it is.
I'm not worried about what I'm eating when I do eat because it is generally very healthy so now I'll just try make myself eat little and often.

I found I could hardly eat anything from Week 6-12, I felt sick all the time and any food going near my mouth brought on the gag reflex.
I found what I could eat though, was crackers with cheese on them, my midwife said that the cheese helps stop you from feeling so sick and throwing up.
I worried a bit too cos I wasnt eating what the books said I should be, but I just wasnt hungry, and then once I hit 16 weeks I was hungry all the time, now Im miss piggy lol
But dont "force" yourself to eat, just nibble all the time and you will feel better and it will help bring your appetite back
