Well you see I have a 2nd cousin named after me as her mum liked the name - she's 2 years younger than me - I always thought it was pretty cool as Fleur isn't a common name.
I think her mum did ask my mum if she could use the name - mum was pretty flattered.

Names get recycled a lot in our family though - there's at least 3 samuels named after great granddad and a fav uncle.

Having the same middle name is pretty common - my middle name is Maree and there are hundreds of girls with that name.  pfft its ony a middle name.

Im not sure I'd mind too much.

DS was always going to be Alexander, even before he was conceived. Then my closest friend here got preg and was due the day before us but ended up having her boy two weeks early adn calling him Alexander. At first I was gutted as I felt like I'd have to change names but I didn't because it was a family name and I didn't want to regret it forever.

Anyhow, they're now 8 months old and it's no prob. Sometimes I feel a bit odd because I imagine some, esp the antenatal class, look at us having the second alex as copying, but luckily we knew we were having a boy and told ppl he would be Alex.

Wow, that's a ramble!

Actually I forgot, there is a second cousin named after me too, she's 13 years younger and I do remember that her parents sent mine a card to let them know (they live overseas).

I have a second cousin with the same name as me and DH's half sister has a grandson named Brooke – which is the name we have chosen if we ever have a wee girl. It hasn't deterred us from using that name.

Also, in regards to second names, it seems to be a bit of a fad at the moment to refer to your kids by both their first and second names. Heaps of my friends are calling their daughters Bella Rose, Ruby Rose, Sarah Grace, Ella Grace etc. I get corrected every time I call them by just their first name but I'd put money on it that by the time they're old enough to speak, they'll be leaving out their second names themselves!

I can understand why you would be upset . When our SIL was pregnant she told me she liked Jackson but spelt Jaxon and I obviously like Jackson. She was pregnant and I had just MC'ed so I was praying that she was having a girl, thankfully she did.

But I also agree that Heidi and Chloe are totally different. Names are just that, names, and will be used by others no matter how unique we try to make our own childrens.
I think as the girls get older they will use it as having something in common
