Topic: Diono Radian Car seat Posted: 17 June 2013 at 2:03pm |
Hi There,
I'm new to these forums so please forgive me if I make any terrible errors in etiquette! I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but I need help today so hope someone can enlighten me!
I've been keen on the idea of a Diono Radian carseat for some time. My 14 month old is rapidly reaching the weight limit to stay rear facing in his safe n sound, and I'd like to keep him rear facing for as long as possible. I've seen the Radians on special ($450) online until Wednesday, so want to buy, but I want to make sure I can fit it in my car! I've got a Toyota Corolla Fielder X station wagon and would like the car seat to be able to fit behind my front passenger seat without the passenger having their knees up round their ears!
Does anyone know if it will fit? I measured the distance from the top of the back seat of my car to the top of the back of the front passenger seat, and that is 32 inches (81cm).
Hoping someone can help

The best thing to do is find a shop nearby that sell them and go and try it - most places will let you - and then you know for sure. You can then tell them youll think about it, or you might find that they have a price match special My DD2 is rear facing in hers and it measures 88-89cm from the seat at the highest point where it sticks out the most. We have a Mondeo station wagon and while it would fit on the seats either side, it would compromise the leg room for the front passengers (wouldnt matter for me but DH is quite tall) so we have her in the middle seat - it works better than you would think.
Cant recommend the seat highly enough, I love it and have one for each of the kids.

Thanks Keleho. I've just looked up suppliers on the internet and found one not far from where I'm running errands tomorrow anyway! I didn't think about price matching, hopefully they can do that for us :-)

Also you can get an angle adjuster to use for a kid older than one which gives quite a bit more room to move the seat back. I can only get newborn recline in the centre back seat without shoving the other seats too far forward but I can get toddler recline in all the back seats of my mondeo.

We have a diono radian with an angle adjuster behind the drivers seat of a Mazda 6 wagon and my 6 foot 6 husband can comfortably drive (we've driven Wellington to north Auckland in 2 days with no issues for him).
He can also fit ok with it behind the drivers seat of our much smaller Mazda 3 but wouldn't want to drive long distance with it there.

Our Diono is currently in DH's 2003 Toyota Corolla Fielder X.It is installed behind the drivers seat and is quite comfy for me (5'7") and ok for DH (5'10"). It's in an upright install for Mr 2.5yrs, Miss 13 months was in it today and looked reasonably comfy - maybe a bit upright for her :-). Hope that helps. Kiwi Baby in Mt Roskill were very helpful with fitting, advice and pricing btw.
